General Description of the Position

The Assistant Equestrian Coach at Delaware State University assists the Head Equestrian Coach in all aspects of the equestrian program, including training, recruitment, event planning, and administrative duties. This position aims to support the overall success and development of the equestrian team and its student-athletes.

Essential Functions & Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Essential Functions
The following are the functions essential to performing this job:

  • Training and Coaching: Assist in the development and implementation of training programs to improve the skills and performance of student-athletes.
  • Recruitment: Support recruitment efforts by identifying and evaluating potential student-athletes and assisting in the recruitment process.
  • Event Preparation: Help plan, organize, and execute equestrian events, including practices, competitions, and travel arrangements.
  • Student-Athlete Support: Provide mentorship and guidance to student-athletes, fostering both their athletic and personal development.
  • Equipment and Facilities: Assist in the maintenance and management of equestrian equipment and facilities, ensuring a safe and effective training environment.
  • Administrative Support: Provide administrative support to the Head Equestrian Coach, including scheduling, record-keeping, and correspondence.
  • Compliance: Ensure all program activities comply with NCAA regulations, conference mules, and university policies.
  • Community Engagement: Participate in community outreach activities to promote the equestrian program and build positive relationships with alumni, donors, and the community.
  • Academic Monitoring: Support the academic success of student-athletes by monitoring their progress and providing resources for academic support.

  • Equestrian Expertise: Comprehensive knowledge and experience in equestrian sports, including training techniques and competition strategies.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively interact with student-athletes, colleagues, and stakeholders.
  • Organizational Skills: Strong organizational skills to manage schedules, events, and administrative tasks efficiently.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Ability to build positive relationships with student-athletes, staff, alumni, donors, and the community.
  • Leadership Skills: Demonstrated leadership and mentoring abilities to guide and motivate student-athletes.
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Strong problem-solving abilities to address challenges and make informed decisions.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in using relevant software for record-keeping, scheduling, and communication.

Qualification Standards

Education: Bachelor's degree required; previous experience in equestrian coaching or a related field. preferred.
