The Athletics Academic Advisor will provide a high level of academic support in an industry-leading and progressive academic support team. The Athletics Academic Advisor will utilize professional advising and guidance skills to manage all aspects of academic support for assigned Football and Olympic sport programs/student-athletes while monitoring academic progress,
NCAA
eligibility requirements, and progress towards graduation. The Athletics Academic Advisor will be required to exhibit ongoing and open communication with student-athletes, coaches, academic services team, athletics department staff, and university faculty/staff. The Athletics Academic Advisor will contribute to design, implementation and evaluation of programs that contribute to the advising mission of the academic unit. A thorough understanding of the University of Utah, Big 12 Conference, and
NCAA
rules and regulations is required
Support Football Academic Unit/Olympic sport staff members in day-to-day operations
Provide guidance to freshmen and transfer student-athletes on major exploration, course planning, transfer credits, registration, and graduation requirements in conjunction with major advisors
Ensure student-athletes register in degree applicable credits each semester and complete all additional academic items required by the
NCAA
and college, while following department policies (Less than full-time form, graduation applications, course petitions, etc.)
Track and monitor Progress Toward Degree and all eligibility requirements in conjunction with
NCAA
Bylaw 14
Assist in preparation for eligibility process by completing an eligibility review after each semester and summer session
Contribute to calculating sport specific
APR
projections and collaborate with the Registrar for final report submission to the
NCAA
Effectively and regularly communicate with Head Coaches, sport specific academic liaisons, and Sports Supervisors informing the academic progress of student-athletes
Support with recruiting efforts while meeting with prospective student-athletes as requested to discuss the goals, vision, and philosophy of the academic services program
Schedule regular academic appointments assisting in the development of daily and weekly academic objectives for student-athletes on assigned teams
Collaborate with Learning Services to identify specific student needs to facilitate and execute an academic support plan
Partner with Athletics Sport Psychology & Wellness team and Center for Disability and Access when student support includes evaluation, assessment and accommodations
Contribute to the creation of all academic reports (i.e. daily/weekly academic updates, end of semester academic reports, etc.)
Maintain student-athlete files, including records of advising activity during advising visits, adhering to
FERPA
regulations
Engage in professional development opportunities to increase knowledge of the academic advising profession while enhancing the ability to serve student-athletes
Work evenings and weekends as required while performing additional duties as assigned
Apply comprehensive, professional knowledge, and experience to handle complex advising scenarios

Bachelor’s Degree required in related field. A minimum of two years of experience in post-secondary educational institutions. Must be able to demonstrate a working knowledge of
NCAA
eligibility/certification rules and regulations. Strong oral and written communication skills will be necessary while being available to work evenings and weekends, as assigned.
Master’s Degree in counseling/advisement strongly preferred, student personnel, education or related field. A minimum of two years’ experience working in an Athletics Department Academic Services Unit as a counselor, advisor, or learning specialist. Demonstrated experience working with academically under-prepared/high-risk populations. Working knowledge of BIG12 and
NCAA
rules and regulations with proficiency specific to Bylaw 14. Experience working with a diverse population and International student-athletes. Experience overseeing and managing a tutorial support program for student-athletes.
