Job Overview

Consistent with the University’s Academic Resource Center and Department of Athletics missions’ commitment to the comprehensive development of the student, the Academic Coordinato r- Men’s Basketball strengthens the University’s academic support network by providing academic coaching to empower men’s basketball student-athletes to become student-centered learners and to enhance their academic performance.  The Academic Coordinator further serves campus-wide as a liaison to other individuals and offices involved in student development.

The Academic Coordinator strengthens and enhances the overall student experience at Georgetown.  Students must maintain academic progress in order to remain enrolled and to participate in intercollegiate athletics.  This position provides an essential link for students, coaches, Academic Resource Center staff, faculty, and deans in maintaining the high standards of the University’s mission to provide excellence in its educational programs.  The Academic Coordinator -Men’s Basketball is instrumental in supporting a student-athlete’s overall educational experience at Georgetown University. This role requires academic professionalism, an understanding of the intricacies of an NCAA Division I athletics program, the myriad responsibilities required of students who participate in intercollegiate athletics generally and, specifically, men’s basketball.  The Academic Coordinator is responsible for advising men’s basketball student-athletes and will be required to adeptly interact with individuals possessing a wide range of academic preparation, achievements, social and economic backgrounds. 

Work Interactions

The Academic Coordinator - Men’s Basketball is a member of a professional staff of twelve within the Academic Resource Center.  The Academic Coordinator- Men’s Basketball reports to the Associate Director, Student Athlete Services.  The Coordinator has the responsibility of developing, implementing, and evaluating service programs for men’s basketball.  The Coordinator will collaborate with coaches, athletics administrators, and other Student Affairs staff, faculty, and deans, while working closely with student-athletes. The Academic Coordinator will interact with people who represent a wide variety of interests, needs, and abilities in the context of higher education and must be able to prioritize academic and athletic achievement in a highly competitive academic and athletic institution. 

Requirements and Qualifications

  • 3- 5 years of professional experience in teaching, academic advising counseling, or career development in a higher education
