Position Summary:

The Aquatics program coordinator and Head Coach position leads the SCRA Aquatics programs, a pivotal role guiding youth and adult development across recreational and competitive tiers while maintaining a strong emphasis on organization, leadership adhering to Stanford standards.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Program Management and Operations (60%)
  ● Lead all practices and meets, customizing workouts to align with participants' proficiency levels.
  ● Formulate comprehensive long- and short-term strategies for training and competition spanning all ages and swim levels.
  ● Aid in formulating and executing retention tactics focused on preserving swimmers and evaluating requirements and preferences within the team's framework and timetable.
  ● Manage and coordinate the team's annual affiliation process with USA Swimming and athlete registrations.
  ● Provide administrative aid, encompassing documentation oversight and correspondence with parents and swimmers concerning swim practice, registration prerequisites, and updates.
  ● Foster collaborative ventures with other departments to enrich the overarching program experience.
  ● Conduct skill assessments and closely monitor athletes' performance during practice and competition, furnishing regular updates to superiors and parents.
  ● Enlighten swimmers and parents on proper swimmer decorum, nurturing a culture of respect and support within the team.
  ● Manage pool space and organize club tournaments and special events.
  ● Collaborate with enhancing other aquatics programs and promoting new aquatics activities.
  ● Oversee and manage all aquatic program activities, ensuring seamless coordination and execution.
• Budget and Administrative Management (15%)
  ● Assist in overseeing the development and execution of the annual swim program calendar, integrating practices, competitions, and Club special events.
  ● Collaborate with colleagues and Management to navigate the budget process, address program issues, interpret policies, and mediate complex matters.
• Staff Management Development (15%)
  ● Provide guidance and support to other coaches and staff.
  ● Lead Coach training sessions and other programmatic meetings as necessary.
• Other (10%)
  ● Represent SCRA at events, swim meets, and other events.
  ● Fulfill other duties as assigned or needed to support program/club objectives, facility needs, and members' expectations.
  ● Serve as a resource to other departments regarding youth and family programming.
  ● Pool operation support.

To be successful in this position, you will bring:

Education and Experience

• Bachelor's degree and a minimum of three years of relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and experience in swim coaching.
• Demonstrated experience in executing club-based sports or sport-related special event programming.
• Coaching and/or competitive swimming experience at the club or collegiate level.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Ability to create an inclusive environment that celebrates diversity and fosters belonging.
• Strong interpersonal and customer service skills, with the ability to communicate effectively across diverse backgrounds and identities.
• Understanding of swimming development and its application in a recreational and competitive setting.
• Knowledge of risk management practices in swim programming.
• Demonstrated initiative and ownership in project management.
• Ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions independently.
• Passion for continuous improvement and sharing best practices
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficiency in swim software such as Meet and Team Manager.

Certifications and Licenses

• Lifeguard-BL Certification by the Red Cross or similar organizations or the ability to obtain it before the starting day.
• Minimum of 4 years of USA Swimming coach member with all completed training.
• Safety training for swim coaches online and in-water certification
• USA Swimming Athlete Protection Training
• USA swimming knowledge in Rules and Regulations.
• ASCA coach level 1 or ability to obtain before the starting day.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Constant requirement to stand whilst completing all listed tasks.
• Intermittent requirement to reach forward whilst Collecting equipment off the Pool Deck, Placing and removing platforms (plastic platforms sit on the bottom of the pool for children to stand on during class), Supporting children as required, and Placing and removing pool covers.
• Intermittent requirement to kneel when Communicating with children; Picking up equipment at the start and end of class.
• Occasional requirement to climb a step/platform to get in and out of pools of various depths.
• Meet all the physical requirements required to acquire and maintain the certifications listed above: Swim 300 yards continuously; Tread water for 2 minutes using only the legs; Complete a timed event within 1 minute 40 seconds by starting in the water swimming 20 yards surface dive to a depth of 7 to 10 feet to retrieve a 10-pound object return to the surface and swim 20 yards on the back to return to the starting point exit the water without using steps or a ladder.
• Frequently stand/walk, sit, grasp lightly/fine manipulation.
• Ability to perform and teach sports and fitness-specific skills
• Ability to lift 30 pounds regularly and up to 50 pounds occasionally.
• Occasionally, use a telephone.

WORKING CONDITIONS

• Work often takes place outdoors at the pool deck.
• On-site management of sports activities at both indoor and outdoor facilities, including regular sun exposure in the summer, rain and cold in the fall and winter.
• This is an in-person position, and weekends and extended hours are required due to the nature of the job.

This position, along with all DAPER coaches and staff, is responsible for the integrity of Stanford’s intercollegiate athletics program and for the reputation of Stanford University. This position is responsible for ensuring that his/her involvement with Athletic Department activities maintains the integrity of the University’s reputation and does not negatively impact the relationship between the University and its faculty, staff, students and alumni. Additionally, this position must comply with University policies and procedures, NCAA and current conference rules and regulations.

The expected pay range for this position is $66,560-80,000 per annum.
