The University of California San Diego is seeking qualified applicants for the position of The Assistant AD- Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI). UC San Diego, located in La Jolla, in the San Diego Metropolitan area, enrolls over 35,000 students, earned recognition as one of the world’s premier research universities, and is ranked as one of the top-10 public universities in the nation. Triton Athletics has a proud tradition of academic and athletic excellence and sponsors 23 varsity sports. UC San Diego Athletics has begun reclassifying to NCAA Division I and competes as a member of the Big West Conference.
The Assistant AD- Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) provides comprehensive and advanced EDI vision and guidance to the Athletics Department, in alignment with the overall vision and mission of UC San Diego Athletics. This position supports department-wide strategic initiatives as well as the day-to-day administration. The position reports to the Executive Sr. Associate AD Ethics, Compliance & Scholar-Athlete Success, and has a strong, ongoing liaison relationship with Athletic Department leaders such as the sport administrator group and campus partners including the Vice Chancellor of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Office and University’s Community Centers.
This position serves as a technical leader who provides guidance to all levels within the organization, utilizing specialized diversity, affirmative action, equal employment opportunity expertise within area of responsibility to resolve highly complex issues. Develops, guides, and oversees department EDI strategy, policies, and programs. Oversees coach, scholar-athlete, and staff development and programming in EDI. Consults with and advise coaches, staff, and scholar-athletes on EDI related areas. Liaise with Athletics Compliance to interpret and apply NCAA and campus policies and standards related to EDI. Curate and select appropriate EDI education for Athletics Department staff and scholar-athletes. Liaise closely with OPHD to respond to and monitor incidences of hate, discrimination, and bias that impact the Athletics community.
The position will collaborate with various on and off-campus entities to further opportunities, adhere to operating philosophies consistent with that of UC San Diego, the Triton Athletic Department, the NCAA and all other department partners and applicable organizations. The incumbent will follow the athletic philosophy consistent with that of the UC San Diego Athletic Department and NCAA, and a commitment to diversity in all of its forms. Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training with a college-level program.
Has thorough knowledge of diversity, equity and inclusion and accessibility programs and can apply more advanced subject matter knowledge in the completion of diversity, equity and inclusion assignments. Experience and knowledge in athletics equity, diversity and inclusion. Demonstrated ability in creating materials, presentations and education that aligns with the university and department.
Possesses in-depth skills to gather, organize and perform analyses on diversity, equity and inclusion and accessibility programs and initiatives as well as presenting findings and making recommendations clearly and concisely both verbally and in writing. Demonstrated skill in organizing, updating and manipulating data on a systematic basis. Ability to set up and accurately maintain data files for fast and easy access and retrieval.
Possesses excellent organizational and problem-solving skills. Ability to prioritize and handle multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Ability to identify and implement methods, procedures, and policies. Ability to use good judgment for problem solving.
Has thorough knowledge of organizational policies and procedures; knowledge of functional area and understands how work may impact other areas.
Ability to translate data into understandable language and visual displays. Demonstrated experience using applications, spreadsheets, databases, networks and software packages specific to the field. Proficiency in graphic and material design with PowerPoint and Photoshop or similar programs
Solid communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with all levels of staff. Ability to influence, both verbally and in writing. Strong oral and written communication skills to communicate and interact with persons of diverse backgrounds and personalities.
Demonstrated ability to convey technical information and provide guidelines in a clear and professional manner, using diplomacy, tact and discretion in all interactions. Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with individuals across the range of academic and professional backgrounds, genders, sexual orientations, ethnicities, cultures and other personal factors, both inside and outside the organization.
Strong organizational skills including ability to prioritize time, plan, and follow projects through to completion. Strong demonstrated ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet multiple deadlines in a dynamic environment with numerous interruptions and fluctuating priorities. Ability to develop and adjust routines and procedures as needed. Ability to meet established deadlines, with attention to detail and a keen focus on quality.
Demonstrated supervisory skills, including the ability to train, motivate, and evaluate student employees; to delegate tasks; to schedule sufficient staffing based on knowledge of all schedules and the needs
Demonstrated ability to follow the athletic philosophy consistent with that of the UC San Diego Athletic Department and NCAA, and a commitment to diversity in all of its forms
Must maintain current knowledge of applicable rules and standards of the affiliated athletic conference and the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), as well as other associations and agencies to which the campus adheres, and, at all times avoid any and all violations of these rules and standards. Understanding and adherence to all Big West Conference and NCAA rules and regulations.
Work schedule will include evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Must be able to travel to out-of-town meetings and athletic competitions.
Valid Driver's License required. May participate in the DMV Pull program and maintain a clean DMV record.
Job offer is contingent upon satisfactory clearance based on Background Check and DMV Check results.
This position is a mandated reporter of known or suspected child abuse or neglect, according to the California law, Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act (CANRA).
This position is a campus security authority (CSA) for the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act, which is a federal law requiring disclosure of information about crimes on and around campus.

Pay Transparency Act
Annual Full Pay Range: $59,700 - $124,300 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)
Hourly Equivalent: $28.59 - $59.53
Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
