In the Office of University Advancement, we create the conditions for opportunity – human, financial, & experiential – by garnering and stewarding the resources that advance William & Mary.
The Department of Intercollegiate Athletics at William & Mary is dedicated to the pursuit of excellence in all its endeavors. We are committed to an outstanding intercollegiate athletics program by forging an environment that demands success with integrity; winning championships; empowering leaders; building a championship culture; elevating the prestige of the University; and instilling pride and respect.
Consistent with the university’s shared services agreement with the William & Mary Athletics Foundation (WMAF), this position is assigned 5% effort to support WMAF with the responsibilities outlined below.
The Assistant AD for Advancement / Director of Development for Athletics is a key member on the Athletics Advancement team at William & Mary. Athletics is an integral part of the educational experience at William & Mary, delivering a holistic experience with high standards of performance; providing an environment where champions of uncompromising character, fully engaged with campus and the community, prepare to make a positive impact in a complex and changing world. The athletics fundraising team is seated in two offices: University Advancement and William & Mary Athletics.
The Assistant AD reports to the Associate AD for Advancement, working to build a high-level fundraising program that generates significant revenue for William & Mary’s priorities for athletics programming. The Assistant AD is expected to develop an appropriate-sized major gift portfolio of prospects by the end of their second year in the position and will be expected to conduct an appropriate number of $50,000+ asks based on the portfolio. In addition to annual dollars raised, performance goals include number of asks and closes, activity/move measures as well as the number of prospects identified and qualified for major gift potential.
The successful Assistant AD for Advancement will be a collaborative leader who helps foster a culture of belonging that embraces all people and perspectives. This is a hybrid position based in Williamsburg, Virginia, that offers a flexible work environment.
