Assistant AD for Event Operations

The Naval Academy Athletic Association (NAAA), founded in 1891, is a nonprofit organization whose objective is to "promote, influence, and assist in financing the varsity athletic programs of the midshipmen of the United States Naval Academy" in accordance with the policy of the Superintendent of the Academy. Through an intercollegiate athletics program that is one of the largest in the country, every midshipman is afforded the opportunity to compete in athletics at the Division I level. The emphasis on physical fitness is borne out in the first line of the mission of the U.S. Naval Academy: To develop midshipmen morally, mentally and physically.

Summary

The Assistant Athletic Director for Event Operations provides leadership and oversight for the planning and execution of NAAA athletic events, championships, and special events. This position is responsible for establishing consistent event operating standards, coordinating internal and external stakeholders, and ensuring events are conducted safely, professionally, and efficiently.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Lead planning and execution of home athletic events, championships, and special events.

• Develop event plans, timelines, staffing assignments, checklists, and contingency plans.

• Coordinate event requirements with Facilities, Ticketing, Marketing, Communications, Security, Parking, Athletic Training, Hospitality, Concessions, Equipment, coaches, and other stakeholders.

• Serve as Event Manager for events and assign event-management responsibilities for other events.

• Lead pre-event meetings, event-day coordination, and post-event reviews.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Lead planning and execution of home athletic events, championships, and special events.

• Develop event plans, timelines, staffing assignments, checklists, and contingency plans.

• Coordinate event requirements with Facilities, Ticketing, Marketing, Communications, Security, Parking, Athletic Training, Hospitality, Concessions, Equipment, coaches, and other stakeholders.

• Serve as Event Manager for events and assign event-management responsibilities for other events.

• Lead pre-event meetings, event-day coordination, and post-event reviews.

• Coordinate emergency, weather, evacuation, and other event contingency procedures with appropriate NAAA and USNA personnel.

• Establish and maintain event operations policies, procedures, manuals, and venue-specific operating plans.

• Coordinate and track all visiting team and game officials’ registrations for access to the Naval Academy and work with base security to ensure their ability to get on campus.

• Supervise and train event operations staff, including full time, part-time and temporary personnel.

• Coordinate operational requirements for NCAA, Patriot League, and other championship events.

• Assist with event budgets, contractor coordination, staffing costs, and operational purchasing.

• Evaluate event performance and implement improvements based on post-event reviews.

Additional Eligibility Requirements

• Must be eligible to work in the United States of America, without sponsorship.

• Must be eligible to work on a military installation, including a willingness to submit to a background screen.

• Must possess a valid driver’s license.

• This is an in-person position. 

Work Conditions/Physical Requirements

• Typically involves a combination of office work and physical activity including regular movement through athletic venues.

• May require standing for long periods of time.

• May also involve exposure to various environmental conditions like temperature fluctuations or noise levels

• Lifting requirements (usually up to 70lbs)

Pay Range

$70,000 - $80,000
