Description: The Assistant Athletic Director for Athletic Communications and External Affairs is responsible for all aspects of the Athletic Communications Office, serving as the primary liaison between athletics, the community, and media. The DAC, coordinates, and implements the public relations and branding efforts for King Athletics, coordinating with the King University Marketing and Communications office.

Minimum Qualifications: Christian Commitment: The candidate must have and be able to articulate a personal faith in the Lordship of Jesus Christ and support the mission of King University. Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in sports information with a proven record of communication in multiple venues and formats. Playing or participating a sport at the collegiate level is preferred. Education: A bachelor’s degree is required. Leadership Skills: Work effectively as a member of a team with administrators, the support staff, and other coaches and programs within the Department of Athletics. Have excellent organizational and people skills. Level of independence: High level of ability to work independently and able to prioritize the work. Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Communicate effectively with various institutional constituencies (e.g., faculty, administration, students, parents, staff, alumni and friends) in order to strengthen integration and relationships with the university. Computer Skills: Highly proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office, website and desktop publishing. Significant experience with social media is also required. Physical Exertion requirements: Medium work as defined by the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Procedures commitment: The candidate must adhere to all King University policies as detailed for all employees in the Employee Handbook or specifically per any department, such as Admissions, Business Office, Financial Aid, etc.? Be knowledgeable in NCAA and Conference Carolinas rules and regulations.?Commitment to operating the program within strict budget guidelines, including the desire and ability to fundraise to meet budget needs. Must be willing to obtain certifications in CPR/AED/First Aid and be willing to obtain other certifications as needed

Responsibilities: Serve as a member of the Athletic Leadership Team and advise on policies, procedures, programs, and methods designed to implement the general athletic philosophy and policies of the University to be recommended to the President. Hire, train, supervise, and mentor the Assistant Director of Athletic Communications. Provide leadership and training for graduate assistants and student staff. Setup and preparation for all game day operations related to Athletic Communications. Timely preparation and distribution of athletic contest statistics, including but not limited to: Team and individual performance statistics. Prepare and maintain accurate data sets, photo files, and data for historical purposes. Planning, coordination, preparation, and distribution of all of athletic publications, including, but not limited social media, media guides, weekly releases, special news spots, game results, posters, banners, etc. Maintain the athletic department web site and all social media accounts. Coordinate King Athletics live webcasts, including work with outside vendors as needed. Serve as the primary media liaison between King Athletics and the sports media. Prepare and issue public relations and media pieces to support and promote the athletic department and athletic events. Respond to information requests from news media, conference offices, NCAA, and other sports information officers, in an accurate and timely manner. Provide support for all radio, television, newspaper advertising representing Athletics in conjunction with the Director of Marketing. Coordinate Athletic sponsorships, in conjunction with larger institutional efforts and goals. Assist in coordinating all athletic awards, including but not limited to the King University Athletic Hall of Fame and King Pride Awards. Assist with athletics department goals to strengthen the bond between the University and the community by marketing, promoting, and communicating community engagement activities and positive game environment initiatives. Coordinate as required and requested with the Conference Carolinas office, the NCAA, and other outside entities with regards to King Athletics statistics, branding, and other related areas. Support and model to student-athletes the NCAA’s Life in the Balance initiative. Meet regularly with the Director of Marketing and Communications to coordinate efforts and consistency for both departments. Assemble the Athletic portion of the media report twice a year in preparation for Trustee week. The report should include all instances of online, printed, broadcast (TV and radio) media in the report for the time period since the previous report. Responsible for all logistical arrangements and prepare budget estimates with program areas. General Responsibilities: Use discretion and professionalism in communicating details of the university operations outside of the office, ensuring confidentiality, integrity, and security of all personal and financial student information. Specifically, maintaining confidentiality with regards to student athlete information related to initial and ongoing eligibility and specific NCAA eligibility cases. Compliance with any outside authority and local, state, and federal laws including, but not limited to accrediting agencies, external auditing, first responders, NCAA, FCC, OSHA, TN OSHA, EPA, Title VI, Title VII, Title IX, Clery Act, etc., and do any audit work required for these agencies in a timely fashion. Follow the policies as set forth in the appropriate employee handbook and subsequent updates or changes including, but not limited to, travel, professional development, purchasing and reimbursements, etc. Professional Development and Compliance Participate in professional organizations and professional development as time and resources permit and as directed by the supervisor. Seek out organizations that might provide insight and a networking resource for continued professional development. Note any honor societies, professional certification, or licenses which are applicable to the position, which are desired but not required. Comply with national charters and requirements as possible, noting the exceptions for the file, with your supervisor’s acknowledgement. Other occasional duties and responsibilities as assigned.
