Title: Assistant Athletic Director for Mental Health and Performance

The Assistant Athletic Director for Mental Health and Performance will lead the development, implementation, and oversight of a comprehensive mental health and sport psychology program for

Essential Functions:
• Provide leadership and oversight of department day-to-day and future operations.
• Lead and supervise department staff, which is currently three full time providers.
• Develop a strategic plan, department policies, procedures and best practices for the advancement of mental health and performance psychology services for student-athletes.
• Provide clinical services to student-athletes including evaluation, treatment planning, progress monitoring, re-evaluation and possible referral.
• Serve as primary contact and facilitate high level of care services for emergency mental health presentations.
• Serve as primary contact for off campus referrals related to mental health and performance.
• Identify educational outreach needs and relevant programming.
• Provide consultation and outreach services to coaches, athletic trainers, strength and conditioning, nutrition and other administrative personnel regarding the

psychological well-being of individual student-athletes and team members.
• Engage in counseling-related activities including, but not limited to, maintaining counseling records, referrals, and managing various organizational aspects of counseling cases.
• Consult with Duke athletic department personnel, parents, physicians and campus partners for holistic care initiatives in support of the student-athlete experience.
• Maintain a clinical and sport psychology caseload comprised of student-athletes for both individual and group service provision.
• Manage baseline testing and intake assessments to inform individual psychotherapy, health and behavior interventions, and performance consultations.
• Comply with all Duke University, Duke Athletics, DSSI, ACC and NCAA rules and regulations.

Qualifications:

• Ph.D. or Psy.D. in clinical, counseling or sport psychology from an APA accredited institution of higher education.
• Completion of an APA accredited internship in clinical or counseling psychology.
• Licensed or license-eligible in the state of North Carolina.
• Preferably three (3) to five (5) years’ experience.
• Demonstrated experience working with student-athletes from all backgrounds.
• Strong preference will be given to candidates with intercollegiate athletic experience.
• Prior experience working with student-athlete populations in a Division I athletic department preferred.
• Commitment to diversity and demonstrated competency in multicultural counseling skills.

Salary will be commensurate with the candidate’s experience and skills.

Anticipated Pay Range:

Duke University provides an annual base salary range for this position as USD $92,144.00 to USD $138,216.00. Duke University considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position; candidate’s work experience, education/training, and key skills; internal peer equity; as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.

Education:

Work requires a doctoral degree in Psychology from an accredited educational institution. Must be eligible for full licensure as a Practicing Psychologist as defined by the North Carolina State Board of Examiners of Practicing Psychologists.

Experience:

Licensure requires a minimum of two years of appropriate supervised experience, as defined by the N.C. State Board, after the receipt of a doctoral degree. Alternatively, the Board accepts one year pre-doctoral and one year post-doctoral towards the supervision requirement. The appropriateness of education and experience of applicants for licensure is evaluated solely by the Board according to statutory provisions as outlined in the North Carolina Practicing Psychologist Licensing Act.
