The Colorado State University Department of Athletics sponsors 16 men’s and women’s intercollegiate sports and competes as a member of NCAA Division I (FBS). The University is a current member of the Mountain West Conference and future member of the Pac-12 Conference. The University is located in Fort Collins, Colorado, 65 miles north of Denver. The Assistant Athletic Director for Performance Nutrition oversees the development, implementation and administration of all aspects of a performance nutrition program for the institution’s NCAA Div. I (FBS) intercollegiate athletics program which sponsors 16 men’s and women’s sports.
Essential Duties

- Design individualized nutrition plans based on individual needs or circumstances
- Evaluate effectiveness of nutritional strategies toward meeting desired outcomes and maintain current and accurate documentation as it relates to student’s care current with medical privacy standards
- Address nutritional challenges to performance with special attention to food allergies, bone mineral density concerns, gastrointestinal disturbances, iron depletion or deficiency, vitamin D deficiency, gluten intolerance, lactose intolerance, diabetes, and other nutrition-related medical conditions.
- Utilize body composition and nutritional measurements to educate and evaluate student-athletes on maintaining proper body composition consistent with good health and peak performance
- Demonstrate an ability to positively influence and motivate student-athletes
- Counsel student-athletes on optimal nutrition practices for training, competition, exercise recovery, injury and illness prevention and recovery, hydration, and supplementation
- Provide nutritional education and outreach to student-athletes including coordination of cooking classes, grocery store tours, social media and nutritional intervention
- Oversee all aspects of performance nutrition and work with designated dining service partners to oversee training table schedule, menus and budgetary oversight.
- Work with coaches and the health and performance team to educate and help develop proper pre- and post-game meals, meals while traveling, training table meals and snacks
- Work with nutrition and dietetics personnel on campus and in the community
- Collaborate with University dining hall staff for food service options and coordinate menu planning and dietary options for SA’s living in residence halls

- Lead the performance nutrition unit in working proactively with other members of the Health and Performance staff in the overall development and well-being of student-athletes including collaborating on welfare issues such as injury prevention, physical and mental health, nutrition, recovery from injury, athletic performance, academic performance, etc.
- Work with team physicians and athletics department’s disordered eating taskforce in order to recognize, evaluate and provide early intervention of disordered eating
- Coordinate nutritional care and maintain open, on-going communication with sport coaches, strength and conditioning coaches, sports medicine staff and team physicians

- Lead, coordinate and oversee the Department’s training table program, fueling station, supplementation and hydration programs including evaluation, recommendation, purchasing, receiving and distribution of dietary/nutritional supplements, including herbal supplements, for legality, safety, quality, and efficacy consistent with NCAA regulations and athletic department policies and procedures
- Develop programs for interns, volunteers and practicum students
- Establish and maintain productive channels of communication with coaching staff
- Oversee development of policy and procedures relative to nutritional education, weight and body composition management, use of dietary supplements, fueling for performance, injury and illness prevention and hydration

- Ensure professional appearance of facility for recruiting purposes
- Assist with recruiting visits of prospective student-athletes
- Oversee sports dietitian(s), students, interns and/or graduate assistants
- Adhere to medical directives of the team physicians
- Maintain an environment of mutual respect and civility in the fueling station that is conducive to a supportive, productive and healthy atmosphere for both male and female student-athletes
- Ensure compliance with department, University, conference, and NCAA rules and regulations

- Ensure compliance with all departmental, University, conference and NCAA procedures, rules and regulations
