Job Description:

Fulfills the mission of Norwich University by managing the care, prevention, and rehabilitation of injuries for student-athletes as directed by the Head Athletic Trainer and Associate Athletic Trainer. The Assistant Athletic Trainer will work cooperatively with student-athletes, coaches, and athletic department staff.

This is a 40 hour per week and 43 weeks per year .833 FTE position.

Salary: $46,000.00/year or more depending on experience

Essential Functions

1. Provides athletic training services.
2. Coordinates all medical care for at least one travel team.
3. Assists in the supervision of the assistant athletic training staff and their associated sport assignments in the evaluation, treatment, care, and rehabilitation of injuries when they do occur so that student-athlete can return to competition as soon as possible.
4. Evaluates and directs the emergency medical attention given when a student-athlete is injured in practice or competition.
5. Implements the treatment, care, and rehabilitation of injuries according to the protocols developed by the Head Athletic Trainer and the team physicians.
6. Directs in-house rehabilitation programs for all injuries so that the student-athlete can return to competition and re-injury does not occur.
7. Attends home athletic events as assigned by the Head Athletic Trainer.
8. To act as a liaison between student-athletes, coaches, parents, team physicians, strength and conditioning staff, and other sports medicine professionals on medical consultation matters, including University concussion policy.
9. Maintains compliance with NATABOC continuing education requirements.

Other Functions

1. Maintains confidentiality of sensitive or private information.
2. Communicates with employees, students, and others in a respectful and clear manner.
3. Serves on University committees, councils, workgroups, or other designated bodies as assigned.
4. Achieves, maintains proficiency in, and utilizes computers, telephones, and other job-related equipment, including related systems and software.
5. Speaks, reads, and writes in English.
6. Communicates by telephone, email, letter, in person, or other means or device.
7. Performs other tasks as assigned by supervisor.

Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred
• Certification by the NATABOC required.
• Must hold licensure or be eligible for licensure as an athletic trainer in the State of Vermont.
• Certification in First Aid, CPR & AED required.
• Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, SharePoint, Teams, and Outlook). Experience with Sportswear Online or other injury tracking software preferred.
• Able to sit, squat, reach, push, pull, and manipulate related equipment; lift 50 pounds; travel outdoors to various parts of the campus.
• Work some evening or weekend hours.
• Travel as needed (public or private transportation)

Environmental Conditions

• Indoor work at a computer workstation and outdoor work in all weather conditions.
• Medium level of exposure to noise, dust, fumes, vibrations, and temperature changes.
