Position Summary:
The general purpose of this position is to provide proper medical preventions, screenings, and rehabilitation for athletic injuries. Ensure that the Sports Medicine Department is in compliance with all OSHA regulations. Assist with coordinating medical eligibility, including PPE screenings and appropriate information. This position must establish an initial clinical impression concerning the athletic injury and a proper course of action regarding treatment, and referral to a qualified physician. Coordinate medical appointments for student- athletes under the supervision of the Director of Sports Medicine. The position will supervise medical coverage of assigned teams as designated by the Director of Sports Medicine, to provide coverage of all practices and games as scheduled. This position will not require any teaching obligations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries.
Sports team travel for competition.
Properly document injuries as well as treatments and rehabilitation sessions of injured athletes.
Process insurance claims.
Prepare medical reports for coaches.
Maintenance and management of the athletic training facilities.
Pre and post*practice, game preparation.
Follow prescribed protocols of the team physicians when providing health care for injured or sick athletes.
Assist in the education of student* athletes, coaches, and staff on all medical issues, drug and alcohol educating, testing, nutritional information on supplements and medications.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Sports Medicine.
Perform other duties as assigned by Athletic Director.
Responsible for overseeing all aspects with the guidelines set forth by Arkansas Tech University, the Great American Conference, and the NCAA.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Applied Knowledge:
Athletic trainers must have knowledge of a large range of medical concerns.
Assessment, evaluation skills and working with other healthcare professionals will be required.
Decision-Making Skills:
Ability to think critically and make independent decisions regarding the assessment, treatment, rehabilitation and return to play decisions per state licensure guidelines.
Documentation & Attention to Detail:
Utilizing electronic medical records (EMR) for accurate injury tracking.
Interpersonal Skills:
Ability to communicate effectively in high stress/pressure situation when speaking to patients, medical professionals, staff and families.
Must have the ability to organize, prioritize and perform multiple tasks with little or no supervision.
Ethical Practice:
Adhering to the NATA Code of Ethics and BOC Standards of Professional Practice.
Flexibility:
Ability to work irregular hours, including evenings and weekends.
Rehabilitation Protocols:
Designing and implementing therapeutic exercises and conditioning programs.
Emergency Medicine:
Proficiency in CPR, AED, and first aid procedures.
Nutrition and Wellness:
Knowledge of sports nutrition and preventive health measures.
Minimum Requirements:
Master's degree.
Certification by the National Athletic Trainers Association-BOC.
Licensed or eligible for Licensure in the State of Arkansas.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree in Athletic Training.
At least 2-3 years of previous athletic training experience at the collegiate or professional level.
Work Location, Environment, and Physical Demands:
Arkansas Tech University.
This position requires that the employee work in the indoor setting, outdoor setting and in an office setting.
Physical demands pertain to but are not limited to:
Strength & Lifting: Medium to heavy work is often required, (often to assist injured athletes) and frequently lifting or carrying equipment.
Mobility: High, including walking, running, standing for long periods, bending, stooping, kneeling, pushing, pulling, and climbing.
Physical Stamina: Ability to work in varied conditions (indoor/outdoor) with exposure to weather extremes.
