VCU Sports Medicine is seeking a passionate and experienced Athletic trainer.
Summary:
Under the general supervision of the Assistant AD for Sports Medicine, the Assistant Athletic Trainer will coordinate at a high-level athletic injury prevention, evaluation, management and rehabilitation for VCU intercollegiate student-athletes. The sport assignment will be Women’s Volleyball and Men's Golf. Employee is required to keep accurate records of all treatments of athletic injuries and organize the training room.
Typical Duties
Provide Athletic Training Services to the assigned team(s) during practices, competition, and sports performance sessions to ensure all student-athletes receive equitable care and equal access to medical services.
Oversee student-athlete(s)’ injury rehabilitation.
Coordinate direct physician care, physician referrals, physician event coverage, and pre-participation physical examinations.
Organize injury prevention programs such as Functional Movement Screen (FMS) and corrective exercises.
Document injuries, treatments, rehabilitation, appointment and surgeries using electronic medical record keeping system. Update student-athletes’ insurance, emergency contract and medications using electronic medical record keeping system.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree;
Two (2) years’ experience working with collegiate athletics;
Valid driver’s license and ability to drive University vehicles;
Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff and student environment or commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU; and
Able to work independently, as well as part of a team, in a multi-tasking environment, with a strong sense of principles and ethics in regard to the welfare of the student-athletes.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working within Division I athletics;
Willingness and ability to work flexible hours, which include nights and weekends; and
Advanced degree or experience, which equates to an advanced degree.
Required Licenses/Certifications
Current CPR/AED/First Aid certifications;
NATABOC certification; and
Employee must be eligible for the Virginia Athletic Trainer License.
