Job Summary:

Under the general direction of the Director of Athletics, the Assistant Athletic Trainer performs basic athletic training functions. The Assistant Athletic Trainer supports the daily operations in collaboration with the Head Athletic Trainer or Athletic Trainer Coach II (ATC) in alignment with established policies, procedures, and athletic training standards.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Assist with prevention, recognition, and assessment of athletic injuries. Consult with the Head Athletic Trainer or ATC II on treatment plans. Assist with implementing preventive and rehabilitation programs to treat athletic injuries using the appropriate therapeutic modalities and treatments. Travel with sports teams to away games as needed.
  • Assist with development and administration of rehabilitation programs for athletic injuries. Assist with designing conditioning programs to prevent injuries. Assist with the counseling and assisting student-athletes and staff regarding conditioning, athletic training, therapy and rehabilitation. Inform coaching staff and other health professionals on the status of injuries and treatment plans.
  • Assist in program development, including coordinating training room operations. Assist with needed coverage for practices, home events, and team travel. Attend practices and athletic events and provide medical emergency coverage to student athletes. May assist in monitoring the work of student interns/trainers.
  • Maintain equipment and cleanliness of the athletic training and rehabilitation facilities.
  • Assist with department special projects, drug prevention and testing requirements/programs for student athletes.
  • Other Classification related duties as assigned
