Job Summary

The Assistant Athletics Director, Major Gifts is a frontline major gift officer who identifies, qualifies, cultivates, solicits, and stewards major and principal gift donors for FGCU Athletics. This position is responsible for understanding and articulating fundraising initiatives and priorities set in collaboration with FGCU’s Athletics Director to current and prospect donors. This position manages a portfolio of 75-100 prospects, making an average of 70 solicitations and raising $1 to $3 million annually. The Assistant Athletics Director reports directly to the Director, Major and Planned Gifts while working in partnership with athletic leadership.

Job Description

Typical duties may include but are not limited to:

  • Develops fundraising strategies, goals, and objectives for FGCU Athletics, including prospect identification and management across all constituencies, including former student-athletes.
  • Develops, cultivates, expands, and maintains a portfolio of major gift prospects, adhering to the department recording standards within the NXT database.
  • Develops and supports clearly defined and strategic fundraising priorities within the athletics campaign and articulates compelling cases to advance these priorities.
  • Performs duties related to advancement work, including documenting activity, writing proposals, and adhering to Foundation policies.
  • Enters all prospect plans into NXT database.
  • Contributes to the overall productivity and efficiency of the development team by meeting or exceeding goals in a metrics-driven environment.
  • Participates in the development and coordination of special events and programs for donors and prospects.
  • Complies with all University, ASUN Conference regulations, as well as all NCAA rules and regulations. Remains current with all changes in NCAA, as well as changes to University and ASUN Conference rules and regulations regarding intercollegiate athletics. This includes the requirement for self-reporting any possible rule violations and participation in the annual NCAA continuing education programs including passing the NCAA certification test, if applicable. Any violation of NCAA rules is prohibited and may result in disciplinary action up to and including termination of employment.
