Newberry College (NCAA D2), located in Newberry, SC, is seeking applicants for our Assistant Baseball/Pitching Coach position. The selected candidate will ensure the team operates and conducts themselves within the ideals, goals, rules and regulations set forth by Newberry College, the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and the South Atlantic Conference (SAC). The successful candidate will embrace and promote the mission of Newberry College. Newberry College prepares students in the Lutheran liberal arts tradition through our supportive academic community for lifelong intellectual and personal development, meaningful vocation, and engaged citizenship in the global society. This position reports directly to the Head Baseball Coach. The successful candidate will provide leadership, organization, supervision, instruction, recruit student-athletes and monitor all aspects of a collegiate pitching staff.

JOB FUNCTIONS

• Serve as pitching coach.
• Create and manage a program for the pitchers both in and out of season.
• Ability to develop pitchers in all facets of the game.
• Practice planning that incorporates all aspects of pitching including but not limited to pick offs, pitcher fielding practice, arm care, and video analysis.
• Communicate and work with athletic training staff for recovery plans.
• Recruit student athletes that fit the culture of the college and the baseball program.
• Organize opponent scouting reports pre/post games.
• Assist with travel plans (meals).
• Throw quality batting practice daily.
• Create an atmosphere that emphasizes the student-athlete experience.
• Construct a plan to ensure academic success and personal development of student-athletes.

• Ensure each student-athlete has a pathway towards graduation.
• Identify, evaluate, and recruit academically prepared student-athletes in accordance with college policy and NCAA regulations.
• Establish an effective communication plan with student-athletes.
• All other duties as assigned by the Head Baseball Coach.
   

EDUCATIONAL OR OTHER HIRING REQUIREMENTS FOR THE POSITION

Requirements include a bachelor’s degree, and previous collegiate baseball coaching or playing experience is preferred. Upon employment, the candidate must successfully complete NCAA certification exam.
