The Certified Assistant Athletic Trainer is a full-time, 12-month exempt position. This position is a part of a 7-member team of full-time athletic trainers.
The successful candidate provides preventative care, rehabilitation, and athletic trainer services for competitions and practices for intercollegiate sports. This position provides preventative care, rehabilitation and athletic trainer services for all competitions and practices for intercollegiate sports; administer/organize athletic training services for student-athletes; and participate collaboratively and professionally with other faculty and staff to promote the general well-being of the department and University, and collective and individual interest of its staff and student body. Must be able to support and promote the University’s Mission.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Education: A bachelor’s degree in sports medicine or related field is required.
Skills: Must be able to respond to students and others in extreme circumstances and have the ability to make quick decisions in a life-threatening situation. Must have knowledge of University, NCAA and PSAC policies, rules, and procedures. Must be able to motivate students and to work with a diverse group of people. Must have excellent verbal and interpersonal skills; organizational, supervisory and management skills; budgeting, maintenance and purchasing skills; and team building skills. Must be able to work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet scheduled deadlines. Must have the ability to assess student needs and be able to respond to those needs effectively.
Licenses or Certifications:
• NATABOC certified in good standing
• Commonwealth of Pennsylvania license that is active and in good standing as an athletic trainer or eligible for Pennsylvania licensure
• CPR/First Aid, AED certified in good standing
• A valid driver’s license that is in good standing is required. Per Gannon’s Institutional Policy Manual there can be no suspensions on the Motor Vehicle Record for 5 years prior to being hired.

Education: A master’s degree in sports medicine or related field is preferred.
Certification:
Strength & conditioning certification
CPR/First Aid, AED instructor
Experience: One-to-three years of athletic training experience is preferred.
Must be able to meet the physical demands associated with a busy University sports environment. Instructional work schedule conforms to professional responsibilities.
• Walking – Moving to various sites on practice field and between buildings.
• Verbal – Giving instructions and teaching concepts during practices and games. Contact with coaches about injured/sick athletes.
• Written/Computer Generated – Preparing daily injury logs, injury reports and injured athletes documents.
• Hearing – Activities during practices and games.
• Vision – Far – Activities during practices and games. Near – Use of instructional/rehabilitation equipment, computer terminal use, etc.
• Field of Vision – Activities during practices and games.
Evening and weekend hours, along with flexible work scheduling, are required. Work is performed in the office, athletic training room and playing field in all types of weather. Travel is required and includes extended periods of time on the road.
