The Assistant Cheer Coach supports the Spirit Coordinator in managing a coed collegiate cheer program at the NCAA Division I level. This is a part-time position focused on game-day performance, practice support, and student-athlete development. The program is non-competitive, with an emphasis on school spirit, crowd engagement, and representation of the university at athletic and community events.
Key Responsibilities
Coaching & Practice Support
Assist in planning and conducting practices, including stunting, tumbling, conditioning, and game-day routine preparation.
Provide instruction and spotting for coed partner stunts and pyramids, ensuring proper technique and safety.
Help develop and clean sidelines, timeout routines, and promotional performances.
Support implementation of team standards for performance, behavior, and attendance.
Game Day & Event Support
Attend and assist with cheer activities at football, basketball, and other assigned athletic events.
Help coordinate sidelines, timeouts, and halftime responsibilities.

Promote an energetic, engaging game-day atmosphere to enhance fan experience.
Student-Athlete Development
Serve as a positive mentor and role model for student-athletes.
Encourage academic success, leadership, teamwork, and personal growth.
Promote a respectful, inclusive, and team-oriented environment.
Recruitment & Team Operations
Assist with tryouts, clinics, and candidate evaluations.
Help maintain attendance records, communication, and team organization.
Travel & Logistics
Travel with the team to select away games and appearances.
Must be available for travel to the men’s basketball ACC tournament.
Assist with travel coordination and supervision of student-athletes during trips.
Safety & Risk Management
Ensure compliance with established cheer safety guidelines and best practices.
Assist in monitoring athlete conditioning and proper skill progression.
Maintain or obtain CPR/First Aid certification.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Knowledge of coed stunting, tumbling, and cheer safety standards.
Ability to instruct, spot, and support advanced-level skills.
Strong communication, teamwork, and organizational skills.
Ability to work evenings, weekends, and travel as required.
Anticipated compensation: $5,000 - $6,000.

Experience: Some experience in coaching this particular sport program at the collegiate and/or professional level.
Licensure: None
Physical demands
Work is performed in the process of coaching student-athletes within a sports program.
