Assistant Cheerleading Coach

JOB DESCRIPTION

Newberry College is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Assistant Cheerleading Coach to support the cheerleading program. The assistant coach will work closely with the Head Coach to develop athletes' skills, promote team spirit, ensure student-athlete safety, and contribute to the program's overall success both on and off the field.

JOB FUNCTIONS

• Assist in planning, organizing, and conducting practices, workouts, and team meetings.
• Attend all practices, games, competitions, and team-related events.
• Help oversee conditioning programs and promote physical wellness and injury prevention.
• Assist with recruiting and evaluating prospective student-athletes.
• Promote academic success and monitor eligibility requirements of team members.
• Assist in planning fundraising, community outreach, and team-building events.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Head Coach or Athletic Department.

EDUCATIONAL OR OTHER HIRING REQUIREMENTS FOR THE POSITION
Bachelor’s degree preferred; relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree. 1-3 years of cheerleading coaching experience. Collegiate cheerleading experience strongly preferred. Knowledge of stunting, tumbling, choreography, and cheer safety regulations. Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills. CPR/First Aid and AACCA (or USA Cheer) safety certification (or willingness to obtain). The ability to work evenings, weekends, and travel as needed.

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience coaching co-ed teams or competitive cheer. Knowledge of NCA Intermediate Rules. Knowledge of NCAA cheerleading standards and eligibility guidelines. Experience with recruiting and mentoring student-athletes.
