The Assistant Cheerleading Coach serves as a vital member of the King University Cheerleading Program, supporting the Head Cheerleading Coach in fostering a Christ-centered, student-athlete experience that promotes excellence in athletics, academics, leadership, and spiritual growth. This position assists in the daily operations of the cheerleading program while helping develop student-athletes who reflect the mission, values, and Christian faith foundation of King University. The Assistant Cheerleading Coach is responsible for overseeing all basketball game-day operations. They will be responsible for assisting with budget management, recruiting efforts, contributing to practice planning, athlete development, and helping maintain a positive team culture rooted in faith, integrity, servant leadership, and accountability.

The Assistant Cheerleading Coach is expected to support and advance this mission by mentoring student-athletes, demonstrating Christian leadership, and contributing to an environment where faith and learning flourish together.

Responsibilities: Game Day Operations and Event Management • Coordinate and oversee all cheerleading game-day operations for men’s and women’s basketball games. • Develop, organize, and implement game day cheers, chants, sidelines, dances, promotions, crowd-engagement activities, and spirit initiatives. • Ensure all game day performances are executed professionally and align with university and athletic department standards. • Lead scheduling, preparation, and communication related to game day responsibilities with the appropriate athletic department staff. • Manage team logistics associated with basketball game appearances and special athletic events such as game themes, promotions, etc. • Collaborate with athletic department personnel, marketing staff, and game operations personnel to enhance fan engagement and attendance. • Maintain a high standard of professionalism, enthusiasm, and sportsmanship during all university events. Financial Management and Budget Oversight • Manage team purchasing processes in accordance with university policies and procedures. • Assist in the p reparation, submission, and tracking of expense reports, reimbursement requests, invoices, and related financial documentation. • Assist the Head Coach in monitoring program expenditures and maintaining accurate financial records. • Serve as a secondary reviewer for budget management to ensure fiscal responsibility and compliance. • Support long-term financial planning and assist in maintaining established program financial goals. • Help identify cost-saving opportunities and ensure effective spending of program resources. Fundraising and Program Development • Assist in planning, coordinating, and executing fundraising initiatives that support program growth and sustainability. • Collaborate with the Head Coach to establish and achieve annual fundraising objectives. • Promote a culture of faith and service within the cheerleading program. Recruiting and Student-Athlete Development • Assist in identifying, evaluating, and recruiting prospective student-athletes who align with the academic, athletic, and spiritual values of King University. • Participate in recruiting communications, visits, camps, clinics, and outreach initiatives. • Maintain clean and organized recruiting databases and documentation for the head coach and Athletic department. • Support efforts to attract and retain high-character student athletes committed to academic and athletic success. • Advance program sustainability by helping achieve targeted roster composition, retention, and growth goals through proactive recruiting and relationship-building efforts. Practice Planning and Coaching Support • Assist in planning and conducting practices, workouts, and team development sessions. • Provide instruction in cheerleading techniques, game day skills, performance execution, leadership development, and team dynamics. • Support athlete skill progression while emphasizing safety, discipline, and personal accountability. • Assist in evaluating team performance and implementing strategies for continuous improvement. • Promote a culture of excellence, teamwork, and servant leadership. Christian Leadership and Spiritual Development • Model Christian character and uphold the mission, values, and faith commitments of King University. • Encourage spiritual growth and discipleship among student-athletes. • Foster an environment that integrates faith into athletic participation and daily team interactions. • Demonstrate integrity, humility, compassion, and servant leadership in all aspects of coaching and student engagement. • Support team devotionals, prayer opportunities, faith discussions, and other initiatives that contribute to the spiritual development of student-athletes. Additional Responsibilities • Represent King University and the Athletics Department in a professional and positive manner. • Comply with all university, conference, and governing body policies and regulations. • Perform all other duties as assigned by the Head Cheerleading Coach and Athletics Administration. Qualifications Required Qualifications • Bachelor’s degree required. • Previous cheerleading coaching and/or collegiate cheerleading experience. • Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills. • Experience managing budgets, purchases, and administrative processes. • Ability to work early mornings, late evenings, weekends, and travel as required. • Commitment to the Christian mission and values of King University. Preferred Qualifications • Collegiate coaching experience. • Experience with recruiting student-athletes. • Experience in fundraising and program development. • Knowledge of game day operations, fan engagement, and athletic event management. Physical Requirements • Ability to demonstrate and instruct cheerleading skills as necessary. • Ability to stand, walk, lift, and actively participate during practices, games, events, and travel. • Ability to supervise student-athletes in various athletic settings. • Ability to spot tumbling and building skills safely and in compliance with USA Cheerleading standards.
