The Department of Athletics exists to provide educational and athletic opportunities to young men and women, to provide an environment for student-athletes to learn, advance and excel both academically and athletically, and to serve the interests of the University by complimenting and enhancing its diversity and quality of life. Through its athletic programs, the University seeks to unite alumni, faculty, administration and students in a common shared experience. The governing unit within the Department of Athletics is the Director’s Office, which is the administrative office and clearinghouse for the entire Department of Athletics, and promotes the department’s guiding principle of educating and inspiring through athletics. This unit provides support to administrators, coaches, staff members and student-athletes in order to provide and promote a premier intercollegiate athletic program for The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The Department of Athletics is a highly visible public relations arm of The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, with statewide, national and international recognition. | | Position Summary |
Assist the head coach with all aspects of the Fencing program including but not limited to: practice competition activities, player skill development, recruiting, directing and implementing plans for daily practices and competitions in Foil or Epee, organizing and administering clinics, etc., and overall administrative tasks within the operation of the program. Must demonstrate integrity, leadership, a strong commitment and ability to motivate, teach, counsel, and recruit academically qualified students. | | Minimum Education and Experience Requirements |
Minimum of a bachelor’s degree required (or foreign degree equivalent) with at least 1 year of experience in relevant independent instructional or educational activities; specific minimum experience is at the discretion of the Director of Athletics. | | Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience |
2-5 years of experience in an intercollegiate environment preferably at a Division I level. Knowledge of and familiarity with NCAA rules and regulations, particularly as they apply to the sport of fencing. Good organizational, interpersonal communications and computer skills necessary. | | Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience |
Prefer at least 1 year in relevant independent or educational activities. | | Special Physical/Mental Requirements |
Must be able to lift/move 25lbs or greater. May be required to navigate stairs. Attention to detail essential. Must be able to manage high volume, fast paced environment. May be subject to working in extreme weather conditions. Travel required. | | Campus Security Authority Responsibilities |

This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority in accordance with the Clery Act. This position will be required to report Clery crimes to the Clery Compliance Manager and complete annual training about reporting responsibilities.
