Job Summary
Provide leadership, instruction, and strategic oversight for the football program’s defensive backs unit and all special teams operations while supporting recruiting, game preparation, and the overall mission of the intercollegiate athletics program.
Job Description
Coach, instruct, and develop all defensive backs, including cornerbacks and safeties, with emphasis on technique, fundamentals, coverage responsibilities, and game execution.
Coordinate and oversee all special teams units, including kickoff, kickoff return, punt, punt return, field goal, extra point, and onside situations. · Design, implement, and adjust defensive backs and special teams schemes consistent with the program’s philosophy.
Develop weekly game plans, scouting reports, and practice plans related to defensive backs and special teams.
Conduct film analysis and performance evaluations for assigned position groups and special teams units.
Call and manage special teams during games and make real-time adjustments as needed. · Identify, evaluate, and recruit prospective student-athletes in compliance with NCAA, conference, and institutional regulations.
Participate in recruiting travel, on-campus visits, prospect evaluations, and communication with recruits and families.
Monitor and support the academic progress, conduct, and overall development of assigned student-athletes.
Assist with administrative responsibilities including equipment coordination, travel preparation, compliance documentation, and program meetings.
Represent the football program in a professional manner at practices, competitions, community events, and institutional functions.
Maintain knowledge of current NCAA rules, coaching techniques, and sport-specific trends.
Assist with summer camps, clinics, fundraising activities, and community outreach. ·
Support other coaching and departmental initiatives as directed by the Head Coach or Athletic Director.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
Prior coaching experience in football with responsibility for defensive backs and/or special teams (collegiate level strongly preferred).
Demonstrated experience in recruiting, scouting, and evaluation of prospective student-athletes.
Experience developing practice plans, teaching progressions, and conducting film review sessions.
Game day coordinating experience for special teams (preferred).
·Experience working with diverse student-athlete populations and supporting academic/behavioral expectations.
Demonstrated ability to clearly communicate verbally and in writing.
Ability to read, see, hear, and analyze information to perform essential job functions.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree.
NCAA coaching education and/or certifications
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Thorough knowledge of defensive backs techniques, coverage structures, and position-specific player development (cornerbacks and safeties).
Strong knowledge of special teams strategy, scheme design, and situational decision-making (kickoff, kickoff return, punt, punt return, FG/PAT, onside, fakes).
Ability to develop weekly scouting reports, practice scripts, install plans, and game plans aligned to opponent tendencies.
Strong teaching, communication, and motivational skills with the ability to coach student-athletes effectively in group and individual settings.
Ability to evaluate talent and project player potential for both defensive backfield roles and special teams contribution.
·Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to work collaboratively with Head Coach, coordinators, and support staff to meet program goals.
·Working knowledge of NCAA, conference, and institutional rules with demonstrated ability to maintain compliance in recruiting and daily operations.
Ability to maintain professionalism, discretion, and sound judgment while representing the institution publicly.
Proficiency with video/film breakdown tools and basic office technology (email, spreadsheets, recruiting databases) as required by the program.

Physical Requirement/ Demands
Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing, and pulling up to 30 pounds.
Prolonged standing and walking during practices, meetings, and athletic contests.
Extended periods of travel and non-traditional work hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Work Environment
● Indoor and outdoor working environment in all weather conditions.
● Non-traditional hours will be required
