The Department of Athletics is seeking an Assistant Coach: Men’s Golf. This is a full-time (1.00
FTE
),12-month, professional faculty position.

The Assistant Coach assists the Head Coach in the organization, administration and promotion of all aspects of the Oregon State Men’s Golf Program. Coaching includes instruction, academic supervision of the athletes, program management for the specific area assigned and preparation of recommendations to the Head Coach and Director of Athletics. Adheres to the policies set forth by direct supervisors, Head Coach and Athletic Director, as well as Oregon State University, the
PAC
-12 Conference and The National Collegiate Athletic Association.

COACHING

TEACHING
Prepares, plans, conducts, and evaluates practice sessions, as directed. Provides consultation and advice to Head Coach and team members driven by data analytics to inform training, on-course strategy, and player development. Teaches individuals and groups of players specific tasks and skills during both the season and off-season. Will be available to Head Coach and players before, during and after practices, games, and events. Responsible for tracking student-athlete statistics during practice and tournaments and analyzing them to tailor individual game improvement plans.

RECRUITMENT
Coordinates and oversees the recruitment of student-athletes. Attends off-campus tournaments for the purpose of evaluation and contact. Coordinates mailing of recruitment materials to prospective student-athletes. Makes phone contact with prospective student-athletes and coaches when appropriate. Plans campus visits with prospective student-athletes and their parents. Maintains database management to ensure
NCAA
rules are followed in the recruiting space. Uses junior golf results to create analysis / guide understanding of potential growth for future student-athletes. This role requires the incumbent to maintain a current, valid driver’s license and maintain a satisfactory driving record in order to perform these duties.

ADMINISTRATION
Serves as event coordinator for home tournament. Responsible for procurement, budget management, and all logistic matters relating to home event. Apply financial forecasting techniques to manage the program’s budget and allocate resources effectively regarding team travel, equipment, and tournament expenses. Develop and maintain data dashboards to track team performance and financial expenditures to ensure financial compliance in ever changing college athletics climate. Plan long and short-term team objectives under the leadership of the Head Coach. Establishes and reinforces requirements for team members in terms of academic and athletic progress. Coordinates recruiting efforts with the Office of Admissions and Compliance Office. Responsible for coordination of incoming student-athlete arrival / orientation. Encourage and participate in activities that foster an environment that is diverse, equitable, inclusive and fosters a sense of belonging for both student workers, student athletes, and co-workers.

SUPERVISION
Manage all aspects of
OSU
Golf Camps including budgets, payroll and personnel decisions, which may entail access to personal information. Provides leadership, supervision and direction for assigned staff. Plans, assigns and reviews work. Establishes goals for each position and assess performance through completion of evaluations. Hires, trains, promotes employees. Disciplines or effectively recommends discipline up to and including dismissal. Address grievances, developing a framework for corrective actions as necessary. May have one-on-one access to youth under 18 years of age in a Youth Program.

FUNDRAISING
Operates as the Tournament Director for various golf fundraising events with responsibilities to include procurement, budget management, and all logistical matters. Prepare financial reports and budget projections to present to boosters, sponsors, and alumni. Manage donor / alumni database to optimize relations while enhancing potential fundraising efforts. Assists in the formulation of team and department fundraising activities and promotional events.

Interacts with various campus offices, departments, as well as individual faculty and staff members. Maintains effective and open communication with

Excellent communication skills and demonstrated ability to communicate in a manner that shows respect and inclusivity for student athletes, student workers and colleagues.
This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a criminal history check and be determined to be position qualified as per University Standard: 05-010 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in youth programs may have additional criminal history checks every 24 months.
This position requires driving a university vehicle or a personal vehicle on behalf of the university; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a motor vehicle history check, possess and maintain a current, valid driver’s license in their state of residence, be determined to be position qualified and self-report convictions as per University Policy 05-030.
Knowledge and experience with
NCAA
, conference, and university rules and regulations is preferred
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
2+ years of experience and proven ability to evaluate / recruit / establish relationships with potential student-athlete(s)
Have worked as a teaching professional or competed as a professional in the game of golf
Experience managing social media channels to bridge Men’s Golf with recruits, fans, donors and alumni.
Working knowledge of Excel,
SQL
, and Python
Proficiency in data analytics, database management, and financial forecasting
Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
Must work evenings and weekends with extensive travel.
May have access one-on-one with youth under 18 years of age in a Youth Program.
Access to personal information.
Access to expensive equipment and keys to storage areas.
Will be responsible for driving a personal or university vehicle to off campus visits and other related events as necessary.
