General Notes

Additional hours will be required during peak periods to include evenings, weekends, early mornings and holidays. Extended hours including holidays and weekends during games and practices and other contingencies.  Significant travel is required.  Assistant or Associate Coach position may be offered dependent on candidate qualifications and experience.

Purpose

To assist the Head Coach in the leadership and management of the Softball program and to achieve successful outcomes, including: recruiting elite student-athletes, training and coaching with the goal of contending for national and conference championships.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Head Coach in recruiting, training, motivating and developing elite student-athletes in the sport of softball. Proactively promote the academic, personal and social development of student-athletes. Recruit and coach with the objective of attaining the highest possible outcomes in NCAA competition while maintaining integrity of the program. Employ high professional standards, ethical behaviors and adherence to UT Athletics, University, Conference, and NCAA rules.

• Provide high profile and positive public relations and communication with a wide variety of institutional and sport constituencies, including softball professionals and coaches at all levels (club, high school), alumni, letter winners, media, students, student families, fans, Texas Athletics colleagues and others. Assist the Head Coach in the design of a competitive schedule to maximize team and individual player development and performance.

• Assist the Head Coach in leading and managing administration, logistics, support staff and business functions, including budgeting, of the Softball program.

• Consistently exemplify the core values and quality service standards of Texas Athletics. Always act ethically. Proactively seek guidance when unsure or unclear of a law, rule or policy applicable to you or your department/sport program. Actively participate in assigned education and training programs. Comply with all laws, policies, rules and regulations set forth by the Board of Regents of The University of Texas System, The University of Texas at Austin, NCAA, Conference, or other governing body, including state and federal laws. Annually obtain prior written approval and report all outside activities and outside income. Report knowledge of, or reasonable cause to believe, violation(s) of state or federal laws, policies, rules, or regulations of the University, Conference, or NCAA to IA ARMCS or IA HR. Fully cooperate with any investigation by providing complete and accurate information when requested to do so by Texas Athletics and/or the NCAA and do not influence others in any way during an investigation. In compliance with Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 and Texas Education Code Sec. 51.252, this position may be a Non-Confidential Employee as defined by University policies on Sex Discrimination, Sexual Harassment, Sexual Assault, Interpersonal Violence and Stalking.  As a Non-Confidential Employee, individuals employed in this position will report incidents of such prohibited conduct to the University’s Title IX Coordinator or Deputy Title IX Coordinator as required by applicable law or University policy. Required Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree.  Successful experience as an assistant or head coach at an elite level.  Experience coaching NCAA championship-caliber student-athletes. Demonstrated excellent interpersonal skills to enhance interaction with student-athletes, peers, alumni, administrative personnel, and the community.  Demonstrated professional demeanor.  Technological proficiency.  Demonstrated the ability to provide critical thinking and consultation to achieve positive outcomes.  Demonstrated exceptional character traits in integrity and fairness. Current and working knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations relating to student-athletes and the recruiting of student-athletes.  Demonstrated commitment to The University of Texas Intercollegiate Athletics Core Values: Integrity, Excellence, Teamwork, Community Engagement, Creativity, Accountability and Loyalty.

Preferred Qualifications

Success in recruiting elite student-athletes.  Experience as a student athlete in collegiate athletics.  Experience coaching NCAA championship-caliber student-athletes.

Driving Required

This job requires a class "C" operator's driver's license. The applicant selected must provide a current three year driving record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, a Texas driver's license must be obtained within 30 days of becoming a Texas resident.

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
