Job Description:

Western Kentucky University, a member of Conference USA and a Football Bowl Subdivision NCAA member institution, seeks to hire an individual for the position of Softball Assistant Coach.  This is a 12-month, full-time position.  This position will report directly to the Women's Softball head coach.  Applicants must have a commitment to and responsibility for adhering to all rules and regulations of WKU, Conference USA and the NCAA.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

The following duties are customary for this position, but are not to be construed as all-inclusive.  Duties may be added, deleted, and assigned based on management discretion and institutional needs.

• Coach practice sessions and workouts
• Assist with coaching responsibilities during athletic events
• Assist with the recruitment of prospective student-athletes
• Demonstrate working knowledge of overall and sport-related NCAA compliance
• Plans coaching and practice sessions in accordance with NCAA and conference regulations
• Coach team members individually and in groups, and demonstrate game techniques
• Develops and implements game strategy and position assignments
• Track academic progress of student-athletes
• Build relationships within the community
• Attend preparatory meetings and implement strategies resulting from these meetings
• Other duties as assigned by the head coach

Knowledge and Skills Considered Essential for Success:

• Prior baseball or softball playing or coaching experience at the collegiate level
• Recruiting experience
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Ability to handle confidential and sensitive situations with tact and diplomacy
• Strong attention to detail
• Must be self-motivated and team-oriented
• Excellent organization, interpersonal, and communication skills
• Must be willing and able to work evenings and weekends
• The duties and responsibilities of this position must be performed in a competent manner following the highest standards for leadership, professionalism, integrity, accountability, responsibility, cooperation and customer service

Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree
• Prior experience playing or coaching in the sports of baseball or softball at collegiate level

Additional Information:

Salary Range:  $43,000 - $47,000
