Position Summary:
The Assistant Strength & Conditioning Coach at the University of South Dakota is responsible for the design and implementation of strength and conditioning programs for assigned athletic teams, as delegated by the Head Strength & Conditioning Coach. This position requires the ability to effectively instruct, supervise, and demonstrate exercises within a weightlifting-based training environment.
The successful candidate will work collaboratively with the Head Strength & Conditioning Coach and Athletic Trainers to coordinate biomechanical assessments and implement return-to-play protocols for injured student-athletes. Additional duties may be assigned by the Head Strength & Conditioning Coach as needed.
Qualifications:
Required:
Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, or a related field
Certification from either the National Strength & Conditioning Association (
NSCA
) or the Collegiate Strength & Conditioning Coaches Association (CSCCa)
Current
CPR
and
AED
certifications
Minimum of 1 academic year (full- or part-time) of experience in a
NCAA
member strength & conditioning program, working with both male and female athletes
Preferred:
Master’s degree in a related field
Experience as a collegiate athlete
USA
Weightlifting (
USAW
) certification
Experience training Basketball and/or Volleyball at the collegiate level
Key Competencies:
Strong instructional and communication skills in a high-performance training environment
Demonstrated commitment to the academic and athletic mission of the University of South Dakota
Ability to work in compliance with
NCAA
, conference, and institutional policies and procedures
Commitment to the health, safety, and performance development of student-athletes
