Organization's Summary Statement:

The Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach supports Head Coaches in developing and maintaining competitive NCAA Division I sports programs. The Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach for Olympic Sports will prepare male and female student-athletes at the University of Maryland for the rigor and demands of intercollegiate competition. The primary function of this position is the management of athletic performance preparation, including, but not limited to, the application of appropriate motivational techniques, implementation of evidence-based training methods, and safe and correct execution of the following training parameters: power development, plyometric agility training, energy system development, and sport-specific movement training. A commitment to NCAA, conference, and university rules compliance, as well as the academic success of student-athletes, is essential.

The Assistant Strength & Conditioning Coach will design athletic enhancement programs emphasizing individual and team-specific needs and progress reports. The individual serving in this position will provide support to the Director of Strength and Conditioning and perform other duties as assigned.

Physical Demands: The scope of the position frequently requires evening, weekend, and holiday work (Non-standard work hours). While performing the essential functions of the job, the employee operates a computer and other office devices such as telephones, copy machines, fax machines, etc; Constantly moves about the facility and event site before, during, and after events to service clients; and constantly communicates via telephone, email, and in-person with others to exchange accurate information. The job requires the employee to stand, walk, kneel, or crouch, maintain balance, and lift objects weighing up to 25 pounds.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.

Experience: Knowledge of and commitment to compliance with all NCAA, Big Ten Conference, and university rules and regulations, as well as dedication to the full academic development of student-athletes. Strong communication, organization, and administrative skills.

Preferences: Master’s degree, experience with player monitoring, reporting, and data analytics, and demonstrated experience collaborating with other performance team members: sports medicine, nutrition, psychology, academic support, and sport coaches. Experience working with field-based sports such as NCAA Division I Field Hockey, Women’s Lacrosse, and other Olympic sports.
