The University of West Georgia is seeking a qualified candidate to fill the position of Assistant Coach for Men's and Women's Track and Cross Country. The candidate must support the mission of the University of West Georgia, the UWG Athletic department and the UWG cross country/track philosophy. The University of West Georgia is a Division I member of the ASUN Conference. The candidate must be energetic, professional and committed to improving the University of West Georgia cross country & track standings in the ASUN and the region.
Assist Head Coach-
Assist head coach with player development (skills training and physical conditioning).
Recruiting-
Recruit prospective student athletes (off campus visits to schools and track meets; on campus visits with prospects and parents) including communicate through email, text and phone calls
Monitor academics-
Monitor academic progress of members of the track and cross country teams including study halls, class checks when needed and progress reports.
Travel -
Assist head coach with team travel, uniform or equipment needs.
Other duties-
Other duties as assigned by the head coach and athletic administration.
Educational Requirements
Bachelor's degree required
Other Required Qualifications
NCAA recruitment certification, CPR & First Aid certifications required and may be obtained upon hire.
Required Experience
Past participation as an athlete in either track or cross country is preferred and/or coaching experience would be helpful.
The salary for this position will be commensurate with experience.
ABILITIES
Ability to instruct athletes in skills and safety and ability to recruit prospective student athletes and be able to interact with others in a mature professional manner. The candidate must have excellent communication skills, organization skills, interacting with others in a professional manner and adhere to NCAA Division I rules and regulations.
Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds. Candidates must be physically able to teach/instruct student athletes and perform other physical duties in both hot and cold temperatures. The position requires working early mornings, nights and weekends. Must be able to work outdoors and possibly in inclement weather, and travel for recruitment and off-campus events, including out of state.

Knowledge of rules and skills of cross country and track.
