Assistant Coach, Track & Field

Position Summary

William Jewell College seeks a highly motivated and dedicated Assistant Track & Field Coach to support the development and success of its NCAA Division II program. The Assistant Coach will assist the Head Coach in all aspects of the program, including recruitment, athlete development, practice planning, event-specific training, academic support, and program administration. Responsibilities

Coaching & Training

• Assist in planning, organizing, and conducting practice sessions and competitions.
• Provide event-specific technical instruction, with the ability to coach multiple event groups (e.g., sprints, jumps, throws, or distance).
• Support the implementation of strength, conditioning, and injury-prevention programs.
• Analyze performance and provide constructive feedback to student-athletes.

Recruiting

• Identify, evaluate, and recruit prospective student-athletes who will succeed both athletically and academically.
• Establish and maintain recruiting pipelines through high school, club programs, and recruiting services.
• Assist with campus visits and recruitment events.

Program Administration

• Assist with travel logistics, equipment management, and budget oversight.
• Maintain accurate records (rosters, compliance, statistics, recruiting database).
• Support compliance with NCAA, GLVC, and institutional rules and regulations.
• Assist with fundraising and community engagement initiatives.

Academic & Personal Support

• Monitor and support student-athlete academic progress and well-being.
• Serve as a mentor and positive role model for student-athletes.
• Contribute to a culture of inclusivity, sportsmanship, and leadership.

Qualifications

Required:

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
• Collegiate track & field coaching or competitive experience.
• Knowledge of technical and tactical aspects of track & field.
• Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
• Commitment to the mission of Division II athletics and the holistic development of student-athletes.

Preferred:

• Master’s degree.
• Experience recruiting at the collegiate level.
• Event group specialization with proven success developing athletes.
• Familiarity with NCAA compliance processes.

Physical & Work Requirements

• Evening and weekend work is required.
• Frequent travel during recruiting and competition seasons.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform duties in outdoor environments.
