The University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA) Department of Athletics is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Assistant Coach - Women's Basketball. Seawolf Athletics is a member of the Great Northwest Athletic Conference (GNAC), and competes in multiple National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) divisions. The Seawolf program features 13 teams competing at both the Division 1 and Division II levels.

As an Assistant Coach, you will assist with coaching, recruiting, academic success of student-athletes, student-athlete monitoring, strength and conditioning, and administrative support for the intercollegiate Division II women's basketball program.

To thrive in this position, an individual working as an Assistant Coach at UAA needs to enjoy the intercollegiate athletics environment; have a passion to serve student-athletes for their health, safety and wellness. It is also important to understand the part they play in coaching and guiding the student-athletes in academics and competition. This balance takes strong convictions and the ability to build positive relationships with student-athletes, trainers, coaches and staff. In addition, this individual needs to possess the ability to establish a personal work-life rhythm that provides healthy boundaries, between
work and personal life.

To be successful in this role, an individual will need to have interpersonal skills that include diplomacy and a communication style that displays a high emotional intelligence to work with colleagues professionally. The individual needs to have the skills to counsel and motivate the young women are student-athletes in the program. They must have the ability to assist with the organization and leadership of various tasks and aspects of the program.

The individual will need in depth knowledge of technical aspects and theory of coaching women's basketball. They will need in depth knowledge of NCAA and Conference rules and regulations. The individual needs to be skilled in University requirements and procedures for admissions, academic progress and graduation. They will need the ability to assess the athletic and academic ability of prospective student-athletes, and to counsel and motivate student-athletes to succeed in academics and sports. Having knowledge of University personnel, travel and accounting procedures will assist the individual in being successful in the position. The individual must be able to work evenings, weekends, and occasional holidays. They must be able to travel on a regular basis during competitive season and travel less frequently off-season to recruit.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in related field, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Master's degree is preferred.
