Job Description:
RESPONSIBILITIES
Develop the team to reflect PLNU's mission, and readily demonstrate student development goals, athletic department objectives and overall program success.
Develop a spiritual focus consistent with university goals which will promote individual athletes spiritual growth, team involvement in service, worship, and involvement in athletic department activities that support the spiritual growth of all athletes.
Build a program that results in high retention and graduation rates while helping the student body enthusiastically embrace and support the team and its activities.
Target recruitment efforts to result in effective signings of student athletes who are institutionally compatible in lifestyle standards, academic expectations, committed to graduation and enhancing the PLNU identity.
Build a collegial environment in decision making and administrative effectiveness throughout the University campus and within the athletic department staff.
Perform additional duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Coaching experience and proven ability as a bench coach.
Ability to understand the complexity of student involvement in a Christian higher education setting and to mentor athletes to be successful in the total university experience.
Understanding of and commitment to the spiritual mission of Point Loma Nazarene University.
Ability to support and stimulate student athlete holistic growth and to generate activities which enhance athletes' potential academically, socially, emotionally, physically and spiritually.
Ability to relate effectively with students and student-athletes.
Demonstrated abilities in teaching basketball, recruitment and administration management.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The work is primarily sedentary and may require sitting for extended periods of time. Use of computer equipment: computer keyboard, mouse, and monitor. Vision to read documents, e-mail and other correspondence, and reports on paper and computer monitor. Hearing and speaking to communicate effectively with others in person and by phone. Will also stand, stoop, push, pull, and lift up to 10 lbs throughout the day.
