About the Job
Job Description

Student and Campus Life (SCL) inspires transformation in all Cornell students on their journey of individual, academic and personal evolution. Our division is comprised of leading student affairs experts who support our campus on pressing student life matters including public service, health, wellness, social justice, residential living, food services, sports, recreation, career services, and student activities and organizations including sorority and fraternity life. We provide support and services to roughly 25,000 undergraduate, graduate, and professional students on multiple campuses in the U.S. and abroad.

Cornell University is an NCAA Division I institution and a member of the Ivy League. The university fields teams in 37 intercollegiate sports and provides a comprehensive physical education program. The university is committed to excellence in academics and athletics, gender equity and diversity in its programs, and a well-balanced, broad-based intercollegiate athletics program. Athletics and Physical Education offers a diverse program of intercollegiate athletics competition, physical and outdoor education, recreational services, and intramural sports, plus wellness programs for faculty and staff and fitness centers for the entire Cornell community.

The Assistant Coach for Women’s Sailing supports the Director of Cornell University Sailing in the planning and operation of the Women’s Sailing program at Cornell University. This includes assisting with team practice and competitions and providing input on player evaluation and other decisions concerning team operations. In addition, the Assistant Coach will actively support the scouting of opponents and the breakdown of our own performances. The Assistant Coach also has both on- and off-campus recruiting responsibilities, to identify, encourage and evaluate application and acceptance of student athletes at Cornell in accordance with the Ivy League, NCAA and University policies as assigned by the head coach. This position also assists with team travel, home regatta management, budgeting, and scheduling.

This is a full-time, 10-month position. The pay is $53,820 for this 10-month position. This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship.

While position responsibilities vary, every member of our community is expected to foster a culture of belonging and a healthy work environment by communicating across differences; being cooperative, collaborative, open, and welcoming; showing respect, compassion, and empathy; engaging and supporting others regardless of background or perspective; speaking up when others are being excluded or treated inappropriately; and supporting work/life integration of oneself and others.

The Merrill Family Sailing Center

Our home is a true competitive advantage. The 5,466-square-foot, two-story Merrill Family Sailing Center sits directly on Cayuga Lake, offering stunning waterfront views and direct lake access. Managed by a dedicated Sailing Center Manager, the facility provides the team with dedicated meeting, locker, and equipment spaces while sharing the boathouse with Cornell's educational and community sailing programs - creating unique opportunities to engage with students, alumni, and the broader community.

Cayuga Lake offers an exceptional training venue. Northerly winds produce steady breeze and waves ideal for boat tuning and speed, while southerly winds create flat water and shifty conditions common at many ICSA venues, preparing our sailors to compete in a wide range of racing environments. The program maintains a varsity fleet of 36 boats (18 FJs and 18 420s), with the 420 fleet most recently replaced in 2023.
