Purpose:
To provide our students with superior education and experiences in a Christian
environment that sets OBU apart as an institution; to establish OBU as a premier location
nationally/internationally for the participation in the collegiate marching arts; and to make
significant contributions in recruiting.
Essential Functions:
• Teach and instruct various instruments including but not limited to Brass,

Woodwinds and Percussion.
Instruct fundamentals, techniques, musicality, visual aspects and tone production
for each group.
Instructions should occur in group setting and/or individual lessons.

• Teach and instruct visual fundamentals techniques related to marching, dance,

color guard and majorettes.
Instruct body position, foot timing, horn carriage and core training in relationship
to marching.
• Maintain an electronic inventory system for all equipment, uniforms, and apparel.
• Continue professional growth in the field of Marching Arts
• Expand the reach of OBU Athletics Bands nationally/internationally and establish
the winds program as a national draw for college marching bands.
• Adhere to all policies and procedures of OBU, local, state, regional, and national
organizations.
• Understand and effectively communicate to athletes the eligibility requirements of
OBU.

POSITION DESCRIPTION
• Meet professional expectations by actively participating in appropriate
professional organization clinics and seminars.
• Be instrumental in leading team members to attain Christian growth and high
ethical standards.
• Assist the Director of Athletic Bands (DAB) in all athletic band functions,
performances, recruiting, fund raising, camps, planning, and logistics.
• Coordinate with the DAB conducting duties for football, volleyball, and basketball
bands as well as any other ensembles formed for performances.
• Assist in recruiting students that have the ability and potential, both musically and
academically, to achieve success as band members at OBU.
Required Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree
• Marching Band Experience
• Must be able to see and hear well enough to communicate with Marching Band
in practice and in competition.
• Must be able to answer telephone and to communicate with a variety of
constituents.
• Must have sufficient mobility and physical stamina to lead practices, games time
events and to cope with significant travel.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Master’s degree in music or related field
• DCI, WGI, UIL, and or BOA experience
Special Requirements:
• Must be a member of a local evangelical* Christian church.
*Evangical is a broad term referring to segment within Christianity which
maintains the authority of the Bible and the belief in salvation by faith in Jesus
alone.
