Position Overview:

The Menlo College Athletics Department seeks applications for the position of Assistant Director of Sports Performance. This is a full-time, 11-month, exempt position, and reports jointly to the Assistant Director of Athletics for Student-Athlete Health, Wellness and Performance and the Associate Director of Athletics for Compliance and Student Services. The description of responsibilities below is intended to be a descriptive but not necessarily all-inclusive list of responsibilities. The Assistant Director of Sports Performance is a member of the Department of Athletics and is responsible for assisting Menlo College’s intercollegiate athletics program and establishing policies and procedures that achieve the parallel goals of development of quality, competitive athletics teams and support the individual education goals of student-athletes. The Assistant Director of Sports Performance serves as the administrator for all sports programs and will assist the Assistant Director of Athletics for a comprehensive high-performance team to include sports medicine, performance nutrition, sports performance, and mental wellness (performance psychology), with the goal of developing and supporting innovative strategies that increase the efficiencies and effectiveness of the high performance group and the ability to optimize student-athlete health, wellness and performance within the Department of Athletics. The position will abide by all the NCAA Division II, PacWest Conference, and Menlo College Athletics Department rules and regulations. Failure to follow NCAA, conference or Menlo College rules will result in my immediate dismissal from all duties.

Key Responsibilities:

Assist in the coordination and development of effective policies for continued health and safety of all student athletes.
Assist in the continued growth and evolution of a unified, comprehensive, and multidisciplinary student athlete support and athletic health and performance team.
Assist the Assistant Director of Athletics for Student-Athlete Health, Wellness and Performance in designing and implementing sports performance initiatives inclusive of strength training, movement recovery, flexibility, nutrition, mental skills training and speed training.
Assist in the cohesion and unification within the Athletic Training Staff.
Assist in the cohesion and unification within the Sports Performance Staff.
Strong communication and intrapersonal skills to build relationships with coaches, physicians, staff, administration, and other College affiliates as necessary.
Assist in the oversight within Sports Performance, Mental Health, Nutrition, and Athletic Training.
Assist in the maintenance, organization, and advancement of the weight room while ensuring all equipment is properly maintained and utilized.
Assist in the management of the sports performance internship program and all MASPP GA’s to provide mentorship to all junior staff members.
Assist in the evaluation of student-athlete performance, maintaining accurate data files and identifying areas for improvement in collaboration with the Assistant Director of Athletics for Student Athlete Health, Wellness and Performance.
Work alongside the Assistant Director of Athletics for Student-Athlete Health, Wellness and Performance to develop effective motivational strategies to help student-athletes reach their full potential.
Collaborate with Coaches, Athletic Trainers and fellow staff to ensure comprehensive care and training for student-athletes.
Assist the Assistant Director of Athletics for Student-Athlete Health, Wellness and Performance in fundraising efforts, including seeking sponsorships and donations to expand the Sports Performance program.
Provide support during recruitment efforts by preparing Sports Performance materials for prospective student-athletes and their families.
Maintain open lines of communication and strong working relationships across campus.
Contribute to the overall success of the intercollegiate athletics program by performing all other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Assistant Director of Sports Performance.

Accountability

Accountable for assisting in the overall management of the Athletics Department, including administrative duties, specifically the mission, vision, goals and objectives. Accountable to assist the senior management team within the department. The Assistant Director of Athletics for Student-Athlete Health, Wellness and Performance must abide by all applicable NCAA, athletic conference (PacWest), and Menlo College Athletics Department rules and regulations.

Job Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree preferred in related field.
CSCS certification and current NSCA membership.
CPR / AED certification.
Strong interpersonal and organizational skills as well as written and oral communication skills.
At least five years of experience in athletics administration is required, preferably at the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) level.
Demonstrated knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations governing recruitment, student-athlete eligibility, and related functions.
Demonstrated experience overseeing the day-to-day administrative and operational functions of an athletics department.
A dedication to the success of student-athletes in their academic and athletic endeavors, and a commitment to integrity, general equity, and diversity.
Demonstrated experience to supervise, direct, and manage others effectively.
Ability to work with other professionals across campus.
Ability to work non-traditional schedules, including nights and weekends.
