Job Summary:
Under the direction of the Director of Sports Performance, the Assistant Director of Sports Performance will develop and implement appropriate strength, speed, nutrition and conditioning programs for assigned Furman Athletic teams.
Job Description:
Responsibilities:
Designs and conducts daily training programs in order to maximize physical performance. Applies nutrition and supplementation program for basketball student-athletes. Develops and implements individual development plans for each individual student-athlete. Communicates effectively with sport coaches, athletic trainers, and student-athletes to meet performance goals. Foresees potential risks of injury and takes preventative measures in regard to appropriate lifting techniques and instruction of exercise mechanics to the student-athlete. Provides education to sport coaches to improve training procedures for each team. Maintains training credentials and CPR/AED certification. Conducts Injury prevention treatment throughout the course of the season in coordination with Sports Medicine Staff. Recommends meals provided for student-athletes before or after games and during travel. Constantly measures performance and tracks body composition to maximize elite athletic performance. Follows policies and procedures of the Strength & Conditioning Program.
Relationships:
Daily contact with sport coaches, Sports Medicine staff, student-athletes, and facility support staff.
Responsibility for Final Decisions:
Tasks involve interpretation of data and or procedures to address changes in training progressions and resolution of problems.
Reports To: Director of Sports Performance
Educational/Skill Requirements:
Bachelor Degree required. Master degree preferred in a related field of study
2-3 year’s experience in a strength and conditioning setting
Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) credential required
Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations
Excellent communication and organizational skills
Work Conditions:
Work is performed under usual office or athletic facility conditions requiring basic safety precautions.
Work requires:
Frequent evening and weekend work.
Travel with Men’s Basketball team to road games.
Daily exposure to varied weather conditions.
Daily reaching and handling.
Daily stooping and kneeling.
Daily pushing and pulling.
Daily lifting and carrying.
Daily climbing and balancing.
