Organization's Summary Statement: The Assistant Director of Strategic Communications & Content Development will serve as the primary media contact for assigned sports and will also develop and write feature stories and human-interest pieces for umterps.com and One Maryland Magazine, as well as game recaps for various sports. This position will serve as an editor, working with students and freelance writers on a content writing schedule. This team player will develop, ideate, and create content for our website and social media accounts; compile statistics; edit content with a specific focus on accuracy and timeliness; prepare game notes and press releases to ensure adequate coverage and proper NCAA and Conference reporting; maintain and update the athletic department's website; respond to and manage media requests; coordinate interviews, news conferences, and photo sessions; provide event coverage and game-day management functions; and work closely with the Strategic Communications Officer and Director of Communications to effectively promote both programs nationally while possessing a strong working knowledge of Genius Sports and StatCrew software.
Physical Demands: This position frequently requires working evenings, weekends, and holidays, which are considered non-standard work hours. While performing the essential functions of the job, the employee operates a computer and other office devices, such as telephones, copy machines, and fax machines; constantly moves about the facility and event site before, during, and after events to service clients; and consistently communicates via telephone, email, and in person with others to exchange accurate information. The job requires the employee to stand, walk, kneel, crouch, balance, and lift up to 25 pounds.
Preferences: 2-3 years of experience, demonstrated previous experience working in an NCAA Division I athletic department or a professional sports organization.
Licenses/Certifications: N/A
Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
Experience: One (1) year of experience in a professional setting.
Other: Additional work experience as defined above may be substituted on a year for year basis for up to four (4) years of the required education.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of intercollegiate athletics administrative structure and responsibilities.
Knowledge of athletics policies and procedures and federal, state, and other applicable, related laws, rules, regulations, and ordinances.
Skill in oral and written communication.
Skill in the use of Microsoft Office and Google Suite products.
Ability to multitask and prioritize within unit and department environment as well manage large-scale athletics-related projects.
Preferences: Experience working in an athletic collegiate environment.
