Description
The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) is seeking an Assistant Director - SASS Student-Athlete Development to support the holistic growth of student-athletes by providing career guidance, leadership training, and personal development opportunities. This role fosters relationships with student-athletes, coaches, and faculty while coordinating career programs, student-athlete orientation, and SAAC leadership initiatives. Additionally, the coordinator collaborates with advisors to track academic progress, supports NCAA eligibility processes, and organizes community engagement efforts. They also serve on campus committees and contribute to department-wide initiatives that enhance the overall student-athlete experience.
Duties and Responsibilities
Program Development Implementation: Design, coordinate, and evaluate life skills programming, career readiness initiatives, and personal development workshops for student-athletes.
Collaboration Relationship Building: Collaborate with campus and community partners to develop and implement career readiness, wellness, leadership, and other life skills programming that promotes holistic development of student-athletes.
SAAC Leadership Engagement: Serve as advisor for the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), fostering a supportive space for student-athlete voices and leadership growth.
Academic Monitoring Support: Oversee the academic progress and eligibility of student-athletes on assigned teams, coordinate academic support services, and provide career and personal guidance. Maintain accurate records of student-athlete academic eligibility.
Community Service Coordination: Organize and promote community service opportunities for student-athletes, coaches, and athletic staff while tracking department-wide participation.
Event Coordination Departmental Initiatives: Plan key athletic department events such as new student-athlete orientation, athletics welcome back, Green Golden Globes Awards Show, graduation ceremonies and other programming.
Communication Social Media: Use a variety of methods to communicate with student-athletes, coaches, and athletic staff regarding campus, departmental, and community events and initiatives. Oversee the student-athlete development social media platforms.

Compliance Confidentiality: Adheres to all institution, conference and NCAA rules and regulations and reports all known NCAA violations in accordance with institutional, conference and NCAA policies and guidelines. Adheres to the Family Educational Rights to Privacy Act (FERPA).
Administrative Special Projects: Assists with other duties as assigned by the Associate AD, Student-Athlete Support Services, to enhance student-athlete success and overall departmental initiatives.
Continual Professional Development: Stay current with NCAA regulations, athletics-related trends, and higher education practices to best support student-athletes.
Perform other duties as assigned.
(Annual Salary: $50,050 - $81,330)
Qualifications
Master's degree in a related field and three (3) years of related experience. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.
