Assist head football coach in day-to-day operations with the program, including but not limited to coaching, player development, scouting, academic support, general operations with NCAA rules. This is a full-time, 10-month position that does not work June 1-July 30.

Required Education

• Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience required.

Required Experience

• Two or more years of experience.
• Previous coaching, playing, and/or teaching experience.

Primary Duties/Essential Functions

• Identify and evaluate prospective student athletes who are good fits for the university both athletically and academically; communicating with PSAs and families; processing official and unofficial visits while communicating through the completion of necessary admissions and university documents.
• Teach and develop sport specific skills with the basic tenants and theory of the sport and skills needed to execute successful collegiate-level performance.
• Aid in the physical development and organizational motivation of the team.
• Organize and lead team and/or individual-athlete meetings involving coaching personnel.
• Planning of practice sessions and competitive coaching situations.
• Ensure student compliance with rules regarding behavior and appearance.
• Coordinate the conditioning and training of team members in conjunction with athletic trainers and team physicians.
• Work cooperatively with university coaches, staff, and faculty and community members.
• Cultivate strong relationships with local high school and club coaches.
• Comprehend and operate by standards set forth in the NCAA and APU Manuals.
• Ensure education and enforcement of NCAA rules as they relate to documentation and input of information in compliance/roster management software.
• Coordinate discipleship and mentoring of student-athletes.
• Attend required department meetings and NCAA rules presentations.
• Assist in scheduling contests, scrimmages, and exhibitions while coordinating team travel arrangements within guidelines set for by the department, institution, conference, and NCAA.
• Assist in fundraising, alumni relations, community outreach, and ministry opportunities, communicating current status of the program with alumni, friends, and supporters of the program.
• Supervise equipment in annual procurement, inventory, distribution, and collection.

Skills

• Sufficient experience to justify coaching, recruiting, compliance, and academic support.
• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to relate to a variety of personalities.
• Demonstrated knowledge and application of current thinking in areas of sport techniques and strategy, conditioning, fitness, and leadership and program management.
• Demonstrated ability to lead, motivate, and minister to student athletes.
• Excellent communication skills: both oral and written.
• Responsible driving skills.

• Ability to work under pressure, exuding a mature demeanor while multitasking in a deadline oriented environment with accuracy and consistency.
• Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
• Ability to work collaboratively with a team, as well as an independent contributor.
• Ability to exercise good judgment and discretionary skills in determining when to act independently and when to consult management prior to taking action.
• Self-starter with a positive attitude and demonstrated loyalty to the staff, program and university.
• In agreement with the purpose and goals of Azusa Pacific University in providing a Christian-based higher education for its students.

Physical Demands

• Requires repetitive motions and sitting at computer keyboard.
• Ability to stand for extended time.
• Hearing and speaking on the telephone.
• Ability to conduct business at other offices on campus.
• Ability to bend, grasp, reach, and occasionally lift up to 50 lbs.

Visual Demands

• Reading, writing notes, and computer monitor.

Environment

• Office, indoor and outdoor athletic facilities, various weather and temperature conditions.

Technologies

• Proficient in Google Apps, Microsoft Office, Hudl, compliance software, and other sport specific web-based and/or scouting applications.

Compensation

• Grade 13: $56,971 to $65,485 is the annual salary for this role and reflects what Azusa Pacific University reasonably expects to pay for this position. Actual compensation may vary based on the qualifications, experience, and internal equity. In addition to compensation, APU offers a competitive benefits package.
