Description of Job

This full-time, year-round position provides an assistant coach for the men’s basketball program in Athletics. This position will provide support in the overall organization and management of the men’s basketball program while reporting to the head men’s basketball coach. In accordance with the vision of the head coach, the position is responsible for serving as an assistant coach; specifically coaching all positions; assisting in the development of practice and game plans, and training sessions; scouting opponents and creating a sound offensive and defensive strategy; recruiting qualified prospective student-athletes; monitoring player academics and providing mentoring to student-athletes; monitoring NCAA compliance; promoting the CSU Pueblo men’s basketball program; developing camps, clinics and fund-raising opportunities for men’s basketball; and serving as an influential and effective leader, collaborator, and team player for the department. The position fulfills other duties as assigned by the head coach.

Coach student-athletes, including all team practices and scheduled games/competitions; assist in the development of game preparation and strategy; condition and train student-athletes in order to develop skill, character, and teamwork in men’s basketball. Ensure that all University, conference and NCAA rules and regulations are followed including studentathlete eligibility, recruiting, financial aid, scheduling and academic progress. Follow University procurement and travel policies. Work in collaboration with fellow coaches and staff under the direction of the head men’s basketball coach.

Recruit highly qualified prospective student-athletes.

Monitor player academics, encourage academic excellence including student-athlete health, wellness and overall welfare.

Assist in the organization of camps and clinics; fund-raising opportunities; serve on committees that promote the success of the program and athletics; establish and maintain community relations and engagement that enhances the success of the program.

Ancillary Duties
Other duties as assigned by the Head Coach and/or Vice President for Athletics and Strategic Partnerships.

Salary Range
$36,000-41,000

Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights

This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship. Minimum Qualifications - Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited 4-year institution - Willing and able to work nights and weekends as needed to fulfill duties - Physical ability to fulfill duties of the position, including skill demonstration - Knowledge of NCAA and/or RMAC rules and regulations - At least one year of successful coaching in volleyball at high school or higher level, including intern or graduate assistant work - Experience in positions or activities that required skills in cooperation, organization, communication and problem solving

Preferred Qualifications - Master’s degree from an accredited 4-year institution - Strong commitment and ability to motivate, teach and counsel student-athletes to achieve their highest potential - Previous experience at the collegiate level in volleyball - Previous experience recruiting NCAA qualified student-athletes - Experience with and commitment to working with varying student populations
