Central State University, an NCAA Division II institution, is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented individual to serve as the Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach / Recruiting Coordinator. This position plays a pivotal role in the success of the men’s basketball program, with a strong emphasis on talent identification and recruitment, compliance, player development, academic support, and team operations. The successful candidate will report directly to the Head Men’s Basketball Coach and serve as a key liaison between the basketball program and compliance staff to ensure all activities are conducted within NCAA, conference, and university regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
Recruiting (Primary Focus)
● Serve as the program’s Recruiting Coordinator, leading all recruiting initiatives in compliance with NCAA and institutional policies.
● Identify and evaluate prospective student-athletes through in-person scouting, video analysis, and networking.
● Build and maintain relationships with high school and junior college coaches, recruits, and families.
● Organize and manage official and unofficial campus visits.
● Maintain accurate recruiting records using approved software platforms.
Compliance / Spry Coordination
● Ensure all recruiting and program activities are accurately logged and compliant through Spry and other compliance tools.
● Collaborate with the compliance office to manage eligibility documentation, rules education, and ongoing monitoring.
● Remain up to date on NCAA legislation and help integrate rule changes into daily program operations.
Academic Monitoring
● Track academic progress and eligibility status of student-athletes.
● Work with academic advisors to support student success and ensure adherence to academic policies.
● Promote a strong culture of academic accountability and achievement.
Practice & Game Preparation
● Contribute to daily practice planning, skill development drills, and strategy implementation.
● Assist with scouting opponents, breaking down film, and preparing game plans.
● Participate in team instruction, both on and off the court.
Summer Camps
● Coordinate and lead summer basketball camps.
● Ensure camps are safe, inclusive, and compliant with university and NCAA regulations. Technology & Performance Analysis
● Utilize tools such as Sportscode, Hudl, Synergy, and Spry to analyze performance, scout opponents, and improve team operations.
● Manage film sessions and maintain a digital archive of games and practices.
Marketing & Social Media
● Create and distribute recruiting and promotional materials using Canva and similar platforms.
● Assist in managing the program’s social media presence in collaboration with the athletics communications staff.
● Contribute to the overall branding and visibility of the men’s basketball program.
● Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
● Previous coaching and/or recruiting experience at the collegiate level.
● Strong knowledge of NCAA rules and compliance practices.
● Proficiency in recruiting, film analysis, and digital content creation tools such as Sportscode, Hudl, Synergy, Spry, and Canva.
● Exceptional organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
● A passion for mentoring student-athletes and fostering their academic, athletic, and personal development in a diverse university environment.
