The Assistant Performance Dietitian provides scientifically-based counseling to student-athletes in order to optimize health and performance. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to performing individual consults, conducting team talks, providing visual and verbal education, screening supplements, conducting and analyzing DEXA scans, and developing menus for football under the supervision of the Assistant Athletics Director for Performance Nutrition. The position coordinates student-athlete care with athletic training, strength and conditioning, sports science, performance innovation, sports psychology and counseling, and coaching staff.
50% Provide scientifically-based counseling to student-athletes in order to optimize health and performance; Perform individual consults, develop meal plans tailored toward performance and recovery goals, conduct team talks, provide visual and verbal education, screen supplements, conduct and analyze DEXA scans, and develop menus for assigned teams; Coordinate student-athlete care with athletic training, strength and conditioning, sports science, performance innovation, sports psychology & counseling, and coaching staffs; Coordinate care with mental health staff in the disordered eating/eating disorder task force.
25% Coordinate pre and post fueling snacks; Screen all supplements that may be provided to football or that student-athletes may express interest in purchasing; Oversight of the football operations fueling station, players lounge, and manages the undergraduate interns and fellows who work the stations to include, but not limited to ordering products, inventory, researching new products, and scheduling students; Manages the football operations nutrition budget, fueling station and supports the performance nutrition center fueling station.
15% Assist in recruiting by meeting with prospective student-athletes; assist in the organization of nutrition needs during summer camps with Assistant Director of Football Operations; Work closely with Chef and Performance Dining Hall staff to develop menus; Aid operation staff in planning meals and logistics for home and away competitions; Support advanced travel during away games; Make grocery trips to buy additional food product if needed.
10% Advance and support LSU and Athletics Department diversity and inclusion initiatives through personal participation in educational and developmental opportunities, as well as participation in the creation of an inclusive culture consistent with the values of LSU and its Athletics Department; Assist with other miscellaneous duties assigned by Assistant Athletics Director for Performance Nutrition.
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree. One year of experience as a Graduate Assistant, Intern or full time in a collegiate or other athletics setting. Strong oral and written communication skills, interpersonal skills, time and priority management skills and the ability to work as a supportive team member toward agreed upon goals. Registered Dietitian with Louisiana licensure or licensure eligible.
Preferred Qualifications: Master's in Nutrition, Exercise Physiology or related field; CSSD certification
Special or Physical Qualifications: Ability and willingness to work extended days, weekends and holidays. Some travel may be required. Due to the nature of the position and/or position responsibilities, this position shall be subject to pre-employment and random drug/alcohol testing in accordance with University Policy Statement 67.
