The University of Iowa Department of Athletics seeks applications for an Assistant Softball Coach. This is a full-time (at-will and FLSA-exempt) position which includes full University benefits. Salary is commensurate with education and experience and consideration of relevant salary market data. The University of Iowa is an NCAA Division I institution and a member of the Big Ten Conference. Responsibilities: The Assistant Softball Coach is responsible for providing administrative, instructional and coaching assistance to the Head Coach with the purpose of building a successful, competitive intercollegiate sports program that also retains and graduates student-athletes. This position requires frequent travel, work in the evenings, on weekends and holidays, a valid U.S. driving license, and the ability to meet the University of Iowa Driving Program standards.

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree (or international equivalent).
• Minimum of three (3) years of demonstrated experience as a NCAA DI Softball Coach and/or combination of DI and Professional Softball Experience with demonstrated knowledge of the techniques and strategies of the sport of softball or 10 years of successful head coaching experience at junior college and/or high school level or combination;
• Successful recruiting experience.

• Working knowledge of and ability to:

  • Effectively communicate with and successfully recruit national caliber student-athletes;
  • Operate effectively within a highly regulated team environment;
  • Utilize basic office productivity software (such as Microsoft Office), online database systems, and digital video software for scouting and analysis.

• Excellent oral and written communication skills, as demonstrated through public speaking engagements, clinician experience, and/or use of effective and creative training/coaching techniques;

• Professional experience working effectively with individuals from a variety of backgrounds and perspectives, demonstrating strong interpersonal skills and ability to build trusting relationships;

• A valid U.S. driver’s license and the ability to meet University of Iowa Driving Policy standards.

Desirable Qualifications:

• Proven ability to successfully identify and accurately assess the talent of softball athletes.
• Genuine passion for and experience with supporting the holistic development of student-athletes, recognizing the interconnectedness of mental health and overall well-being;
• Knowledge of and commitment to comply with NCAA rules and regulations.
• Experience in one or more of the following specialty areas: pitching, catching and/or hitting.

• Demonstrates extensive proficiency and ability to:

  • Utilize a video analysis system;
  • Encourage and motivate student-athletes through effective analysis, feedback and use of effective diagnostic/coaching techniques;
  • Maintain productive, long-term relationships with staff, students, coaches of prospects, and patrons.

• Basic knowledge and understanding of the professionalism and intensity necessary to successfully contribute to a Division I athletics program.
