The Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach for Olympic Sports will carry out all aspects of sport performance for assigned teams while adhering to NCAA, American Athletic Conference, University and Departmental rules and regulations. The Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach will be responsible for supporting the philosophy, goals, and mission of both Rice University and its Intercollegiate Athletics Program. In addition, the Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach will support the Director of Strength and Conditioning for Olympic Sports in the daily operation of the facilities, administrative responsibilities and other departmental duties as assigned.
Workplace Requirements:
This position is exclusively on-site, necessitating all duties to be performed in-person on campus during both regular office hours, mornings, nights, and weekends as team schedule requires. This position will require regular travel. PerRice policy 440, work arrangements may be subject to change.
Equitably travel with assigned teams as needed and/or directed. This travel should in no way interfere with your responsibilities with your other team(s) and/or the S&C Department. If travel is warranted, you will first consult with and receive permission from the Director of Strength and Conditioning, as well as ensure that all other responsibilities are accounted for beforehand.
*Exempt (salaried) positions underFLSAare not eligible for overtime.
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor’s Degree
Certified Strength and Conditioning Coach (CSCS) through the National Strength and Conditioning Association or Strength and Conditioning Coach Certified (SCCC) through the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Association
CPR/AED Certified
One (1) or more years of relevant experience in the sports performance/strength and conditioning field.
Knowledge of NCAA legislation and participating conference bylaws, and compliance guidelines related to a sports program.
Demonstrated track record creating positive, high-energy, productive and supportive working relationships with student athletes, coaches, fellow strength & conditioning teammates and fellow departmental teammates.
Ability to champion a culture of innovative thought, lifelong learning, and continuous improvement.
Demonstrated good sportsmanship and ethical behavior.

Preferences:
Master’s Degree in a Strength and Conditioning related field
2 or more years of related work experience in Strength and Conditioning
Experience with Sports Science technology
Essential Functions:
Design, implement, supervise, and monitor all facets of strength and conditioning programs for assigned
teams, to include:
Periodized Annual Plans.
Sport specific resistance training programs.
Sport specific conditioning programs.
Individual programs when necessitated.
Conduct fitness testing, computation of results, and evaluation.
Collaboration with Athletic Training, Sports Nutrition, Academics and Sport Coaches to monitor, assess and develop protocols for training load, neuromuscular fatigue, recovery, athlete readiness, and other performance factors.
Instruct proper lifting technique and assist in spotting when necessary.
Effectively and properly, motivate athletes to achieve maximum potential in all areas of performance.
Assist the Director of Olympic Sports Strength and Conditioning with all assigned tasks.
Maintain all required strength & conditioning certifications and memberships.
Maintain current CPR/AED certifications.
Anticipate potential safety risks, take measures to remove them, and in the event of an injury, implement emergency medical procedures.
Participate in special projects, committees, or other initiatives as assigned.
Ability to work long hours, including early mornings, late nights, weekends, holidays, non-traditional hours, extended periods of time without days off, travel, and be on call as a regular part of the position.
Ability to lift heavy objects, stand for long periods, work in various environmental conditions, and assist
injured individuals on / off playing surfaces.
Provide a high level of customer service and communication at all times to all entities.
Adhere to and implement industry accepted, scientifically supported methodologies for all varsity athletic
programs. Methods must be tested and properly implemented into the overall training plan for each athlete.
Use technology to foster an effective and efficient overall experience for student-athletes and department team members.
Contribute to the development of an environment for team members and student athletes that is healthy, safe,equitable, and culturally diverse.
Adhere to the Code of Ethics and credentialing requirements of the National Strength & Conditioning
Association (NSCA) and other credentialing organizations and the State of Texas.
Adhere to all policies and procedures as defined by the NCAA, American Athletic Conference USA, and
Rice University’s Department of Athletics.
