Position Summary

Provide Strength and Conditioning services to all 16 NCAA Division II Varsity Teams including program design, administration, execution of programs, and work with athletic training staff in regard to rehabilitation protocols. Employees must understand the mission of Catholic Higher education and be committed to the core values, mission, goals, and objectives of Holy Family University.

Essential Functions:

Job duties that must be performed, with or without reasonable accommodation, and may include any of the following tasks, knowledge, skills and other characteristics. • Oversee the strength and conditioning programs of all NCAA Division II Varsity teams and any applicable non-NCAA Varsity teams. Design and implement strength and conditioning programs. Communicate with coaches of each team on the direction and needs of each team and take those recommendations into consideration when designing a program.
• Communicate and collaborate regularly with the coaching staff of each team to determine the unique needs of each team and ensure the most beneficial results of the strength and conditioning program are being realized.
• Oversee upkeep of the weight room and cardio room as necessary, including daily maintenance, cleanliness, and in-house repairs as necessary.
• Communicate with athletic training staff about injuries and adjustments to individual strength programs for injured student-athletes.
• Instruct the team, group, or individual student-athletes in the optimal execution of exercises to obtain the desired results while ensuring the health and safety of every student-athlete. Oversees programming that includes Olympic lifts, functional strength and power exercises, flexibility and pliability for body management, balance and coordination, quality of movement and athleticism, and linear and multi-directional speed development exercises to meet the demands of the athlete's position, level, event and sport.
• Create and maintain a positive and safe environment for student athletes. Including anticipating potential risks of injury and taking measures to remove them. Maintaining First Aid/CPR certification and in the event of an injury, being able to implement emergency medical procedures.
• Must be able to work with and coordinate facility usage with Head of Strength & Conditioning, team head coaches, and the entire athletic department staff.
• Remain current with strength and conditioning research and scientific foundations.
• Must hold and maintain a current strength and conditioning certification recognized by the NCAA (NSCA-CSCS or CSCCa-SCCC).
• Assist Director of Athletics, Head of Strength & Conditioning and Head Athletic Trainer with other duties as assigned.
• Site supervision as assigned.

Non-Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

• May have Work-Study management responsibilities.
• Any other duties as assigned.

Education & Experience Requirements:

• Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree in Exercise Science or closely related field.
• Must hold a current strength and conditioning certification recognized by the NCAA (NSCA-CSCS or CSCCa-SCCC preferred).
• Must have current First Aid, CPR, & AED certification.
• Collegiate setting experienced preferred.
• Higher education and experience in Nutrition preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Advanced knowledge of anatomy and physiology, exercise physiology, kinesiology and biomechanics.
• Experience in group training, Olympic weightlifting, powerlifting, speed and agility mechanics, flexibility, and functional training is preferred.
• Ability to create and implement strength and conditioning programs and track individual and team results, including generating team/individual progress reports.
• Knowledge of and ability to follow university policies and procedures.
• Advanced knowledge of anatomy and physiology, effective communication, knowledge of strength program design and individual sport needs.
• Ability to demonstrate proper lifting mechanics in the weight-room.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the campus community.
• Understand NCAA compliance rules pertaining towards strength & conditioning, NCAA sport rules and regulations, and all regulations under Title IX, HIPAA, and FERPA.
• Game day management and best practices.
• Must have sound independent judgment and ability to maintain discretion and confidentiality.
• Ability to work independently and work and communicate effectively with a diverse population.
• Excellent attention to detail, problem solving, analytical, communication (verbal and written), interpersonal, and customer service skills.
• Understanding of organizational processes and strong follow-up skills.
• Must demonstrate good time management and project management skills.

Work Environment:

Operates in an office environment, that may have frequent interruptions. The area is well-lit, temperature controlled and free from hazards.Noise level is generally quiet to moderate. The ability to work in an outdoor environment is required.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to lift 50 pounds and heavier. Communicates frequently, in person, over the phone, or via a computer. Hearing is needed for extensive telephone and in person communication. Manual dexterity is needed in order to operate a computer keyboard. Operates standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. Must be able to perform tasks reasonably required of a strength & conditioning professional.

Certification/Licensure:

Current First Aid/CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer Certification

Current strength and conditioning certification recognized by the NCAA (NSCA-CSCS or CSCCa-SCCC preferred).

• Should teleworking become necessary, employee must be willing and able to perform all parts of this job description while working from home, on campus or a combination, and be proficient or willing to become proficient in the technology needed to work remotely.
• Night and weekend availability is required
• Ability to drive a 15-passenger van is required
