Responsibilities
Coaching & Student-Athlete Development (40%)
- Assist in organizing and directing practices in coordination with coaching staff
- Instruct and demonstrate track and field techniques and skills
- Support student-athletes’ growth, performance, and overall development
- Attend home and away competitions
- Promote sportsmanship and positive behavior aligned with institutional values
Recruiting & Program Development (30%)
- Assist in developing and implementing recruiting strategies
- Coordinate recruiting efforts with the Admissions Office
- Identify and recruit qualified prospective student-athletes
- Ensure compliance with recruiting policies and institutional, KCAC, and NAIA regulations
Health, Safety & Compliance (15%)
- Promote safety awareness in all athletic activities
- Monitor student-athlete well-being and ensure injured athletes receive appropriate care
- Report injuries and incidents following established procedures
- Assist with ensuring completion of required medical forms and clearances
Program Representation & Operations (15%)
- Represent McPherson College and the Athletics Department in a positive and professional manner
- Build relationships with athletes, coaches, officials, parents, and the public
- Support eligibility monitoring in collaboration with campus partners
- Assist with administrative responsibilities and program operations as needed
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent required
- Coaching experience in track and field
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to work collaboratively with student-athletes, staff, and campus partners
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in a related field
- 2–3 years of coaching experience, preferably at the collegiate level
- Experience recruiting student-athletes
- Knowledge of NAIA and conference regulations
Work Schedule
The basic work hours are typically 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday; however, schedules will vary based on practice and competition needs. Evening and weekend hours, including Saturdays, are required to support athletic events. The position is expected to meet the demands of the athletic season and program.
