Under the direction of the Head Coach, the Assistant Coach develops members of Winthrop’s
NCAA
Division 1 Women’s Basketball team athletically and academically, fosters a positive team culture, and represents and promotes Winthrop Athletics in a manner consistent with the university’s brand.

Player Development
Works closely with each player to assess their strengths and weaknesses.
Designs and implements individual skill development plans to help student-athletes improve their basketball fundamentals and maximize their potential.
Leads individual and small group workouts, focusing on both offensive and defensive skills.
Conducts film breakdown sessions with players to analyze their performance and identify areas for improvement.
Provides constructive feedback and motivation to help athletes reach their personal and team goals.
Monitors and evaluates player progress throughout the season and adjusts training plans as needed.
Team Practices and Game Preparation
Assists in organizing and running team practices.
Collaborates with other members of the coaching staff to design drills and exercises that emphasize the development of individual skills within the context of team play.
Provides support during games, with a focus on helping players apply their training and development in real-game situations.
Contributes to scouting reports and helps prepare players for specific opponents and game situations.
Recruiting Support
Assists in identifying and evaluating prospective student-athletes.
Attends recruiting events and evaluates players in high school and club basketball settings.
Helps manage recruitment visits.
Mentoring and Player Wellbeing
Serves as a mentor to student-athletes, providing guidance and support for their athletic and academic goals.
Fosters a positive, growth-oriented environment and helps players develop resilience, discipline and teamwork.
Collaborates with academic support staff to ensure players are excelling academically and balancing academic and athletic commitments.
Administrative and Team Operations
Assists in the planning and execution of team activities, including preseason training, off-season development and team-building exercises.
Helps with administrative duties related to player development, including tracking player performance and maintaining associated records and preparing progress reports.
Contributes to the development and execution of summer camps, clinics and outreach programs.
Bachelor’s degree.
At least one year of experience coaching a college or professional basketball team.
Master’s degree in a related field.
Previous coaching/player development experience at the
NCAA
Division I level.
Experience using video analysis tools and performance tracking software.
Solid understanding of player development strategies and techniques and the ability to apply them successfully.
Familiarity with
NCAA
recruiting rules and regulations, particularly those related to coaching and player development.
Ability to assess and develop player skills.
Effective interpersonal and oral and written communication skills and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with student-athletes, coaches and staff.
Strong work ethic, good leadership skills and the ability to motivate student-athletes to reach their full potential.
Ability to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends and holidays, as required by the recruiting and coaching schedule.
Position requires overnight travel and the ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights and weekends.
Valid driver's license.
