Job Description | | |

Provides assistance in coaching one of a variety of NAU sports programs while operating under NCAA Operating Bylaws. Assists with aspects of the program, which may include, recruitment, training and/or strength conditioning for athletic competition to ensure effective execution of game methods and techniques.

All coaches have a duty to cooperate with and furnish the NCAA, Big Sky Conference and NAU with complete information concerning involvement in or knowledge of rules violations as mandated by NCAA.

Bylaw 10.1. Satisfactory rules knowledge and rules compliance are conditions of employment. This position, in particular, will fully participate and cooperate in compliance related activities, procedures and evaluation. Coaches are held to strict NCAA guidelines regarding all of the following:

• Athletic Equipment and Apparel
• Coaching Staff Limits and Contracts
• Complimentary Admissions
• Employment of Student Athletes
• Financial Aid
• Governance
• Institutional Camps and Clinics
• Institutional Certification of Compliance
• Playing and Practice Seasons
• Recruiting
• Representatives of the University's Athletic Interests
• Rules Education

Recruiting - 30%

• Identify, evaluate, and recruit prospective student-athletes including but not limited to phone calls, correspondence, social media, off-campus contacts and evaluations, and on-campus visits.
• Build and maintain relationships with coaches of prospective student-athletes.

Training and Game Management - 30%

• Assist with preparation and implementation of objectives, principles, and concepts in training (skill instruction) and conditioning plans to develop student-athletes athletically with:
  • Field sessions.
  • Individual and position group meetings.
  • Video analysis and film sessions.
  • Assist with preparation and implementation of game plan including but not limited to scouting of opponents and strategy for successful outcomes.

Support and Operations - 30%

• Serve as a resource for and provide guidance to student-athletes.
• Build and maintain relationships with former student-athletes and donors.
• Serve as a liaison to assigned directors within Athletics including but not limited to Facilities and Equipment Operations.
• Manage camps.
• Assist with set up for training and competition.
• Assist with office organization and communication.

NCAA Knowledge and University Representation - 5%

• Assist in developing and maintaining a successful image and profile for the Northern Arizona Women's Soccer program.
• A working knowledge of university, Big Sky Conference, and NCAA rules is required, and the successful candidate will need to pass the NCAA recruiting test.

Other - 5%

• Secondary responsibilities include any other duties assigned by the head coach.

Minimum Qualifications | | |

• Bachelor’s degree in relevant field.
• 2-4 years of relevant experience.
• Must possess current AZ Driver’s License.
• Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.

Preferred Qualifications | | |

• Master’s degree in relevant field.
• U.S. Soccer Coaching License.
• Three (3) years of women’s soccer coaching experience at the collegiate level.
• NCAA Division I women’s soccer coaching experience.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities | | |

• Ability to adhere to all Northern Arizona University, Big Sky Conference, and NCAA rules and regulations.
• Ability to interact professionally within the department, campus, and community.
• Ability to work with people from a variety of culturally diverse backgrounds.
• Effective communication skills.
• Knowledge of NCAA Division I recruiting rules.
• Ability to create and use video editing software.

Driving Requirement | | |

Driving a vehicle on behalf of the university is anticipated to be a regular part of this position.  Arizona Administrative Code Fleet Safety Policy requires all employees who drive on university business become authorized by submitting Driver’s license information for driving record monitoring, and completion of training appropriate to the level of driving performed.  The law applies to all faculty, staff, and students who drive personal or university-owned motorized vehicles for any business purpose.  More information on the NAU Authorized Driver Policy can be found on the NAU website.

This position has been identified as a safety/security sensitive position.  Therefore, per AZ Revised Statute, Northern Arizona University requires satisfactory results for the following:  a criminal background investigation, employment history investigation, degree verification (in some cases) and fingerprinting.  If you are applying for a job that requires a CDL, you will be required to register with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse and adhere to the clearinghouse requirements.  Additionally, as an employer in the state of Arizona, NAU is required to participate in the federal E-Verify program that assists employers with verifying new employees' right to work in the United States.  Finally, each year Northern Arizona University releases an Annual Security Report. The report is a result of a federal law known as the Clery Act. The report includes Clery reportable crime statistics for the three most recent completed calendar years and discloses procedures, practices and programs NAU uses to keep students and employees safe including how to report crimes or other emergencies occurring on campus. In addition, the Fire Safety Report is combined with the Annual Security Report for the NAU Flagstaff Mountain Campus as this campus has on-campus student housing. Salary range begins at $38,628.  Annual salary commensurate with candidate's qualifications and related experience.

FLSA Status | | |

This position is exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and therefore will not earn overtime or compensatory time for additional time worked.

Benefits | | |

This is a Service Professional (SPF) position.  NAU offers an excellent benefit package including generous health, dental and vision insurance; participation in the Arizona State Retirement System or the Optional Retirement Program; 22 days of vacation and 10 holidays per year; and tuition reduction for employees and qualified dependents.  More information on benefits at NAU is available on the Human Resources benefits website.  NAU is a tobacco and smoke-free campus.  Service Professionals are hired on a contract basis, renewable each 6 months according to terms of the Conditions of Professional Service.  Employees offered a position will be eligible for state health plans (including NAU's BCBS Plan).  New employees are eligible for benefits on the first day of the pay period following their enrollment, after their employment date.  Employees will have 31 days from their start date to enroll in benefits. If a new employee chooses the ASRS retirement option, participation in the Arizona State Retirement System, and the long-term disability coverage that accompanies it, will begin on the first of the pay period following 6 months after the new employee's start date. New employees who choose to participate in the Optional Retirement Plan (ORP), which is an alternative to the ASRS plan for faculty and other appointed staff, will begin to participate on the first day of the pay period following election.  Additionally, the long-term disability plan that accompanies the ORP will begin on the first day of the pay period following election.
