Position Title

Associate Athletic Director for Business

Overview

Responsible for the efficient management and strategic leadership of all aspects of the Athletic Department business and finance office. Provide organizational oversight of the business office staff and the various daily, weekly, and monthly business-regulated operations, as well as oversight of financial planning and analysis. Responsible for compliance with all NCAA rules and regulations. Serve as a member of the executive and senior leadership teams. 

Essential Duties:

Provide oversight of the division’s fiscal management, including budget development and reporting of the operating budget, restricted funds, and revenue. Act as final approver of all purchase requisitions, vendor payments, and credit card transactions for the division. Create financial reports for the Athletic Director and senior leadership. Clearly communicate financial data to all head coaches and area supervisors.  Manage the daily operations of the business office. Supervise two full time staff members and one graduate assistant. Responsible for all hiring, training, and performance evaluations. Coordinate with IT to review computer inventory for all athletic staff and develop a replacement plan for all devices.  Collaborate with multiple campus partners on accurate reporting and financial projections, including ticket office, financial services, and the controller’s office. Assist the Financial Service’s office during monthly reconciliation, year-end close, as well as any internal/external audits related to athletic accounts. Review the NCAA and EADA reports for accuracy prior to submission by Financial Services. develop data analytic tools to generate short and long-term financial projections regarding operating revenues and expenses. Assist the Associate AD for Revenue Generation and Business Analytics on reporting and evaluation of all revenue generation activities, as well as examine possible new revenue generation opportunities. Aid in the negotiation of department contracts, including transportation, apparel contracts, multimedia and sponsorship rights, team specific recruiting and game/practice preparation software, and facility agreement with the state of Rhode Island for the Amica Mutual Pavilion (AMP). Collaborate and coordinate with the General Counsel’s office for review and approval.  Serve as the main point of contact with the apparel providers, including Nike, Prime Time Sports, and New Balance. Coordinate the allocation of any allotments. In conjunction with the Associate AD for Revenue Generation and Business Analytics, plan execute and reconcile all exclusive apparel sales for internal/external constituents.  In collaboration with Athletic Development/IA and Friar Family Collective, assist in the reconciliation of all fundraising events by providing accurate and timely reports on expenses and revenues posted to Athletic accounts. Examine and review any reporting provided by the Friar Family Collective, as requested by the Athletic Director.

Education and Experience Required

Master’s Degree in in finance, accounting, management, or other business-related field accredited institution required. Five to seven years’ experience in accounting, higher education, and/or sports administration or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Working knowledge of accounting best practices for higher education, NCAA rules and regulations, the Department of Education’s Equity in Athletics Disclosure Act (EADA), and NCAA financial reporting. Proficient in the use of technology related to financial analysis and other associated computer applications such as Banner, Tableau, and Microsoft Excel and Access. Strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills. Strategic, innovative, and creative thinker. Ability to work with little supervision. Ability to work well with others, and effectively lead a team.
