The Associate Athletics Director for Sports Medicine will be responsible for managing all aspects of Sports Medicine operations, including but not limited to: coordinating the delivery of health care to our varsity student-athletes, the development and implementation of all athletic training policies, procedures, and services, work with the head team physician to coordinate team physician services, personnel management, fiscal management, risk management, and the enforcement of the student-athlete medical expense policy.
All duties must be performed in accordance with University, Conference and
NCAA
rules and regulations.
Provide leadership in the Athletics training rooms. Develop an overall strategy and philosophy for the delivery of health care to our student-athletes and provide coverage for all our sport programs, as needed. May be asked to provide primary sport coverage for a selected varsity team to include in- and out-of-season coverage of practices and competitions.
Oversee the hiring, scheduling, training, and evaluation of all Sports Medicine staff and contracted staff. Responsible for delegating team and administrative assignments, providing direct oversight, conducting ongoing training and regular assessment of staff.
Coordinate with Head Team Physician to provide all necessary services, including medical specialties when needed.
Manage all aspects of the Athletics Department health insurance policy for student-athletes. Maintain current personal health insurance policy information for all student-athletes. Work with the Athletics Insurance Assistant and Student-Athletes to uphold the Student-Athlete Medical Expense Policy and coordinate insurance coverage, appointment scheduling, and medical billing.
Manage the Institutional and
NCAA
Drug Testing Programs.
Responsible for meeting
NCAA
sports medicine reporting requirements. In this role, the position will serve as the Athletics Healthcare Administrator for the University.
Manage existing relationships with physical therapy providers, The Student Health Center, third party athletic training providers, University Strength & Conditioning Coaches, The University Counseling Center staff, contracted insurance brokers, and outside Health Care Providers. Cultivate new relationships if/when necessary.
Maintain a current knowledge of and ensure compliance with Departmental, University, and
NATA
guidelines, rules, and regulations. Responsible for staying abreast of all
NCAA
legislation especially as it pertains to student-athlete health. Maintain complete medical records on all student-athletes including physicals, injuries, illnesses, treatments, diagnoses, and outcomes. Responsible for ensuring that the athletic training staff is up to date on medical documentation and injury reports.
Responsible for managing the Sports Medicine budget, including the purchase of equipment and supplies for the Sports Medicine area.
Organize and lead regular weekly staff meetings with Sports Medicine personnel.
Serve as liaison between the University and contract physicians, student-athletes, parents, coaches, and health care providers.
Play an integral role in leading the Athletic Department’s Health Care Collaboration Team(s). Lead an Integrative Performance Excellence Group.
Responsible for working with campus partners to develop, implement, and regularly review departmental Emergency Action Plans and other risk management protocols.
Coordinate sports medicine coverage of the University’s Summer Athletic Camps to ensure equitable opportunities for ATCs to work camps.
Ensure equitable delivery of health care services to student-athletes.
Evaluate and recommend technology and resources that would help improve the delivery of health care services to student-athletes.
Formal Education

Bachelor’s Degree required, Master’s Degree preferred in sports medicine/athletic training or related field; current
NATABOC
certification
Must be eligible for and have applied for the Pennsylvania Athletic Training Class A Certification
Current
CPR

AED
for the Professional Rescuer Certification.
Specific Job Knowledge:
Familiarity with health care insurance issues and drug testing protocols.
Minimum Work Experience:
7+ years of extensive clinical athletic training experience at an
NCAA
Division 1 institution as well as extensive administrative and management experience.
Work Skills:
Ability to keep good records, including S.O.A.P. notes, daily rehab updates, and injury reports and proficiency with personal computer applications necessary. Excellent communication skills. Excellent interpersonal skills.
Equipment Knowledge:
Ability to utilize therapeutic modalities and rehabilitative equipment.
Master’s Degree in sports medicine/athletic training or related field preferred.

Basketball experience preferred
Working Conditions:
Professional work environment, some evening and weekend hours required, some travel may be required, must be physically fit to lift equipment, ability to lift student-athletes, heavy manipulation of athlete’s bodies for physical conditioning and physical therapy.
