Position Summary

LeMoyne-Owen College, a proud Historically Black College located in the heart of Memphis, is seeking a dynamic and dedicated Associate Director of Athletics for Academic Support & Student Success to join our growing athletics and student success team. This position plays a critical dual role: 50% supports the strategic and operational functions of the athletics department, and 50% supports the academic services for student-athletes.

The successful candidate will be a passionate advocate for student development, a team-oriented leader, and a mission-driven professional committed to the holistic growth of student-athletes’ minds, bodies, and spirits in alignment with the College’s legacy of excellence and empowerment.

Duties and Responsibilities

Associate Athletic Director Responsibilities (50%)

Strategic Leadership & Administration

• Collaborate with the Athletic Director and senior leadership on department goals, strategic planning, and initiatives that support student-athlete success and institutional advancement
• Assist with internal operations, including budget development, facility scheduling, and event management across all athletic programs

Game Day & Program Support

• Provide leadership and operational oversight during home events, ensuring a safe, engaging, and professional environment for student-athletes, fans, and staff
• Coordinate with coaching staff to address the logistical and administrative needs of athletic teams

Compliance & Student-Athlete Welfare

• Ensure alignment with NCAA Division II rules, SIAC policies, and institutional regulations
• Partner with compliance staff to support eligibility tracking, recruiting protocols, and academic standing

Community & Alumni Engagement

• Represent LeMoyne-Owen Athletics in community outreach, alumni events, and college-wide initiatives.
• Support departmental marketing and advancement efforts in collaboration with institutional relations

Academic Enhancement Responsibilities (50%)

Academic Support Leadership

• Direct academic services for all student-athletes, including academic advising, tutoring programs, learning support, and time management development
• Supervise academic support staff, mentors, and graduate assistants

Academic Progress & Retention

• Track and report academic progress metrics including GPA, APR, and graduation rates
• Develop individualized academic success plans for student-athletes in need of intervention

Campus Collaboration

• Partner with the Office of Academic Affairs, Registrar, Advising, and Student Services to ensure student-athletes are fully integrated into academic life at LeMoyne-Owen
• Advocate for equitable access to academic resources and accommodations

Workshops & Programming

• Facilitate workshops and programming that promote academic skill-building, leadership, career readiness, and life skills development
• Maintain a culture of academic excellence and accountability within the athletic department

Minimum Qualifications

 

• Bachelor’s degree (Master’s degree preferred)
• Minimum of 2 years’ experience working in college athletics

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

 

• Excellent written and oral communication skills. Ability to effectively communicate both within and outside the College including, but not limited to, student-athletes, parents, recruits, and coaches
• Ability to work as a support individual
• Ability to provide effective leadership to student-athletes to encourage successful academic development
• Well-versed in Division II NCAA and SIAC legislation and academic requirements for eligibility

Working Conditions/Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, use hands to handle, or feel to talk and to hear. The employee, frequently, is required to walk, reach with hands and arms to stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.
